Turkish company Kontrolmatik/Pomega and Mexican group Jebla have announced a joint investment of US$400 million to establish a domestic energy storage ecosystem, marking a significant milestone for Mexico’s clean energy ambitions.

The project will unfold in two phases. The first involves building an assembly plant scheduled for early 2026. The second, planned between 2027 and 2029, focuses on constructing a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cell plant with an initial production capacity of 3GWh per year, potentially scaling to 10GWh by 2031.

Sami Aslanhan, CEO, Kontrolmatik/POMEGA, emphasized the strategic importance of Mexico. “Mexico represents a turning point in our global strategy. Energy storage is key to achieving energy security and accelerating the transition toward a more sustainable future,” he said to Energia Hoy. “We combine our technological capacity with Grupo Jebla’s local commitment to provide the Mexican industry with clean, reliable, and globally competitive solutions.”

Eduardo Cárdenas, Chairman, Grupo Jebla, highlighted the broader industry implications. “This alliance gives continuity, competitiveness, and growth to the sector. Energy generation alone is no longer enough; the challenge today is ensuring that energy is stable, flexible, and reliable,” he said to Expansion.

Beyond manufacturing, the initiative includes a recycling program for end-of-life equipment and an R&D center aimed at fostering technological innovation in Mexico. The joint effort seeks to create a comprehensive ecosystem of production and knowledge around energy storage.
