Private Company Bets On Clean Energy Project

A private initiative will invest more than US$20 million in a clean energy project in Queretaro. Beetmann announced that the company will start supplying renewable energy to Queretaro Industrial Park (PIQ) alongside Desarrollos Residenciales Turísticos (DRT). The megaproject will allow large companies and industries in the complex to access renewable and sustainable electricity from 1Q2021. "We are providing a greener alternative for energy supply, in addition to neutralizing the carbon footprint by up to 90 percent. The project will allow companies to generate savings between 5 percent and 30 percent in their immediate energy consumption and achieve up to a 90 percent reduction in the electricity cost in just ten years," Juan Carlos García de la Cadena, CEO of Beetmann, told Diario de Querétaro.

The industrial real estate sector has grown significantly and demand is expected to keep up in the coming year. But the industry faces a challenge: the transition towards sustainability, which includes the incorporation of renewable energy. Beetmann is committed to change the traditional industrial electricity consumption model through prediction algorithms, artificial intelligence and data. The project consists of three phases. The company will execute the first and second phases in the next two years and plans to achieve the third phase by 2023.  The goal is to reach a 25 Megawatt-peak (MWp)​ for tenants and common areas to allow the current network to optimize the region's load. The megaproject will generate more than 100 direct and indirect jobs in Queretaro, Tamaulipas and Sonora, where solar and wind farms are located.

The incorporation of renewable energies in the Queretaro industry is still limited. Currently, only 10 percent of the region's industrial and manufacturing sector has incorporated some renewable energy source. This project aims to raise this to 20 percent.

Beetmann has operations in the main industrial parks and corridors strategically located in the states of Veracruz, Nuevo Leon, Guanajuato, Puebla, Jalisco, Queretaro and the Valley of Mexico. By the end of 2021, Beetmann Power and Beetmann Energy plan to develop and build more than 70 MWp in photovoltaic projects in the Distributed Generation model, which is equivalent to lighting about 20,000 homes with renewable energy, according to Energy21.

Renewable energy is essential to achieve Mexico's energy sovereignty and maintain international treaties like the Paris Agreement and USMCA. According to the Ministry of Energy (Sener), the country’s installed capacity to generate renewable energy is 31 percent, distributed as follows: geothermal 1.2 percent, nuclear 2 percent, solar 4.3 percent, wind 7.5 percent and hydroelectric 16 percent.
