Revolve Advances Wind, Distributed Generation Projects In Mexico
Revolve Renewable Power is pressing ahead with development of large-scale wind projects and expanding its distributed generation pipeline in Mexico, as the country sees growing demand for clean energy solutions and pressure on its national grid.
The Vancouver-based company reported recent progress on its two flagship wind developments, El24 and Presa Nueva, which together represent more than 500MW of planned capacity. Revolve said it has advanced interconnection applications with Mexico’s grid operator CENACE, updated project designs to reflect improvements in turbine technology, and strengthened land agreements. Work is also underway on rights of way for Presa Nueva’s transmission line. Both projects are positioned near existing infrastructure and form part of Revolve’s “develop and sell” model, with eventual monetization planned through sales or joint ventures.
Revolve is also ramping up activity in Mexico’s distributed generation market, which grew by 32% in 2024 to reach 4.4GW, according to BNamericas. Companies are increasingly turning to on-site renewable power to reduce costs and improve resilience amid limited investment in the national network. Having operated in Mexico since 2012, Revolve has built a DG project pipeline of 195MW, with 20MW considered late-stage. The company is working to convert these projects into signed agreements it would own and operate.
Mexico recently raised the project size limit for distributed generation from 500 to 700kW, opening additional opportunities for expansion. Revolve said its existing DG portfolio in the country is being optimized under the new framework.
