Sempra presented its new foundation in Mexico: the Sempra Infrastructure Foundation. According to the company, this foundation is the evolution of its subsidiary IEnova’s IEnova Foundation, which was created in 2015 and has helped more than 800,000 people across the country, contributing more than MX$190 million (US$10.12 million).

“The foundation will maintain the commitment shown for seven years to different state and national organizations with the firm purpose of continuing to help those who need it most,” stated Sempra.

Sempra Infrastructure Foundation is set to work to boost education and community energy security and will receive a budget of MX$30 million (US$1.6 million) in 2023 for its activities. “Sempra Infrastructure is not only working to build a stronger Mexico through the development of energy infrastructure, but through our Foundation, we will also support projects and initiatives that improve the quality of life and promote the development of the communities to which we belong,” said Tania Ortiz Mena, President, Sempra Infrastructure Mexico.

In an effort to enhance the education and skills of young Mexicans, the foundation announced plans to fund scholarships with a focus on educational programs related to energy and environmental care. The foundation's goal is to provide educational opportunities to those in need, with a focus on areas that will help shape a sustainable energy future.

The foundation will also concentrate on supporting technological research and innovation aimed at developing a sustainable energy future, in the context of the fight against climate change. This focus on innovation will help create new technologies and systems that will help the country transition to a greener future.

In addition to its educational initiatives, the foundation will also support projects aimed at increasing access to energy for Mexico's most vulnerable communities. The foundation will work with partners to provide clean and renewable energy sources to children's homes and senior centers.

Sempra Infrastructure Foundation activities will be aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to “guarantee access to affordable energy, combat climate change and ensure prosperity for all.

The former IEnova Foundation was able to help more than 800,000 people in Mexico through the deployment of educational, environmental and projects focused on vulnerable groups and community services.

“The Sempra Infrastructure Foundation evolves from the IEnova Foundation, a charitable institution authorized by the Tax Administration Service (SAT) that was founded in 2015 and has donated approximately MX$190 million (US$ 10.18 million) to date benefiting 800,000 people through 240 educational and environmental projects, focused on vulnerable groups and community services in Mexico,” wrote Sempra.
