SENER Approves New CFE Substation Project in Puebla
The Ministry of Energy approved a request from Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta to begin construction of a CFE substation in Ciudad Modelo.
According to the official tender made by Puebla’s Ministry of Planning, Finance, and Administration, the project is scheduled to start on June 5 and be completed within 180 days, wrapping up in early December. The estimated cost of the project is MX$178 million (US$9.2 million).
Ciudad Modelo, located within the San Jose Chiapa municipality, is one of the 14 cities across the country that was recently denominated as Polos del Bienestar, a federal initiative aimed at bringing investment and development into promising cities within Mexico.
In August of 2024, Armenta announced that his government would be investing MX$600 million to build a substation in collaboration with the private sector. Four months later, he met with Luz Elena González, Federal Minister of Energy, to formally request federal support to move forward with the installation. During the meeting, Armenta said that the project was necessary to attract national and international investment, as well as to position Ciudad Modelo as an industrial hub, particularly for semiconductor manufacturing and clean energy, according to Milenio.
