During the inauguration of the 2022 Energy Expo Veracruz, Governor Cuitláhuac García highlighted the state’s importance in the energy matrix and the relevance of new and existing projects in growing Mexico’s energy capabilities.

The event brought together more than 800 local, national and international companies, generating an estimated revenue of over US$700,000. Business authorities linked to the energy sector, government officials and the general public attended the inauguration of the event. The event had more than 7,500 visitors and participants from countries such as Argentina, Germany, Brazil, France, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, Colombia, Spain, the US, Panama and Peru, among others.

"Bringing together companies, the government, academia and society to discuss the future of the energy sector fills me with pride," said Cuitláhuac García, Governor, Veracruz, during his opening speech.

Minister of Energy Rocío Nahle pointed out that the federal government has strengthened the energy sector by fighting oil theft and controlling the prices of gasoline, electricity and LP gas, while boosting CFE and PEMEX without excluding the private initiative. "We have to guarantee electricity at an affordable price and address lithium as a strategic raw material," she said.

The Minister highlighted the importance of the relationship between the Ministry of Finance and the energy sector to fight corruption at a national scale. Likewise, she recognized the importance of bringing together the private and public sectors to seek innovative approaches and agreements to ensure energy security.

García highlighted the importance of Veracruz as a strategic area, as it brings together key projects promoted by the federal government, as well as the private initiative, among them:

  • The reactivation of the Lakach Project with a projected 1.3Bcf of natural gas and the development of four of the 10 industrial parks contemplated for the Interoceanic Corridor of the Tehuantepec Isthmus (CIIT).

  • The Ixachi field, with a natural gas production capacity of 282MMcf/d, making it the third highest yield in the country.

  • The expansion of the Texas-Tuxpan marine pipeline to Coatzacoalcos to supply the CIIT.

  • The rehabilitation of the Minatitlán refinery to consolidate energy self-sufficiency.

  • The development of an ethane import terminal in Pajaritos Lagoon.

Veracruz is also Mexico’s main electricity producer, contributing 15 percent of the national production and featuring clean energy generation, including a solar photovoltaic plant located in Perote and the Laguna Verde nuclear power plant in Alto Lucero. Regarding oil, the state ranks third crude production, with 39 contracts, 142 exploration allocations and production of 414Mb/d.
