Yucatan Governor Joaquín Díaz announced the creation of the Energy Agency of Yucatan as part of the newly introduced Energy Welfare Law. This agency will collaborate with both state and federal governments to attract energy investments and leverage Mexico's growing opportunities in the energy sector.

The Energy Welfare Law is designed to support the development of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and hydraulic power, as well as the efficient use of natural gas. "We know that the energy transition is crucial for the future and our state cannot be left behind. This initiative will lay the foundations for the development of renewable energy projects," said Díaz Mena.

The Energy Agency will be led by Pablo Gamboa, who aims to utilize existing infrastructure in Yucatan, including the state’s five clean energy parks, to position Yucatan as a hub for energy and well-being. Gamboa highlighted a significant private investment of US$140 million for the Tizimín 2 Wind Farm, set to commence construction in March 2025.

In addition to the Energy Agency, Díaz proposed a reform to the Public Administration Code of Yucatan to create several new state agencies. These include the Ministry of Welfare, the Ministry of Youth, and the Ministry of Infrastructure for Welfare, which will replace the Ministry of Public Works. The goal is to ensure public works reach the populations that need them most, with transparency and citizen participation. Alaine López will head the Ministry of Infrastructure, and Alan Padrón will lead the Ministry of Youth.

This last body aims to provide economic support to the state's young population, while the Ministry of Welfare will facilitate access to government social programs. These initiatives align with Díaz Mena's broader strategy to promote sustainable development and improve the well-being of Yucatan's residents.

The Energy Welfare Law and the establishment of the Yucatan Energy Agency mark a significant step toward fostering renewable energy investment and development in the state. This legislative framework will support various renewable projects, promoting a cleaner, more efficient energy landscape for Yucatan.
