Global venture capital firm 500 Startups announced this Wednesday the Latin American companies it will support during 2021, reports Forbes Mexico. “After 12 rounds of our acceleration program, we have learned many things. Although we have made changes with every edition, the team at 500 Startups decided it was time for a more radical change,” explained the company, according to Entrepreneur. This year, the firm will use a more individual approach to support the firms.

"The companies will enter a new program we call ‘Somos Lucha,’ during which they will receive side-by-side support from 500 Startups and different international mentors for four months according to a plan adapted to the needs of each particular company," commented 500 Startups to Forbes Mexico. Each startup will receive an investment of US$60,000. Among the seven selected firms there are two Mexican startups: Yana and Contalink, along with others from Chile, Peru and the Dominican Republic.

What is Yana?

Yana is an app designed to improve users’ mental health. Andrea Campos Guerra, CEO and Founder of Yana, created the app in 2016 as part of a school project, reports Business Insider Mexico. Her app started as a chatbot for Facebook Messenger. But after continuous challenges caused by modifications to that platform, she decided to develop her own application to have greater freedom in the coding process, Campos said during an interview with MBN.

“The application, while not capable of replacing a therapist, is certainly useful as a complement to therapy. One way it helps is by tracking your mental state over time as it checks-in with the user every time it is used,” Guerra explained to MBN. Yana allows its users to improve their well-being by giving them a platform to discuss negative feelings or emotions, teaching them how to be more optimistic and helping them to take control of their emotions while maintaining a stable and positive outlook, reports Panda Ancha.

What is Contalink?

Contalink is an accounting and administrative system that works through the cloud. Its goal is to make an accountant’s work more efficient through the use of extensive technology and automation techniques, reads Contalink’s website. This way, the services allow users to serve more clients with less effort.
