Companies across the world continue turning toward sustainable practices to reduce CO2 emissions. While decarbonization efforts are important for numerous reasons, they can also be monetized through business models that go beyond sustainability and have a net-positive impact on the planet.

A key concept of sustainability is the proper management of resources from sourcing to waste management. Among many initiatives to help companies orient their business practices toward sustainability is Forum for the Future’s “Net Positive” concept, defined as “a new way of doing business which puts back more into society, the environment and the global economy than it takes out.” The project aims to create a standard way for companies to quantify, assess and enhance their positive impacts. It “has developed resources, such as best practice, guidance and tools, aligning Net Positive with other parallel movements such as Circular Economy, strengthening the theory and driving awareness and engagement.”

While many companies are focusing on optimizing resource management and finding sustainable alternatives for raw materials, others focus on the end of the manufacturing chain: waste management, which can help counteract the effects of climate change through the adequate treatment of urban solid waste.

All the waste generated on a daily basis from purchased items has a common denominator: the packaging. Plastic assets lack a clear classification standard, which directly impacts their value,” said Adrián Sánchez, CEO, Lealtad Verde, to MBN. Lealtad Verde has over 15 years of experience in waste management and aims to help consumers to mitigate their personal carbon footprint. The company offers a rewards program that aims to motivate businesses and individual users to embrace sustainability practices.

These and other opportunities to monetize through net-positive business models will be discussed during Mexico Business Forum 2022. The event, hosted by Mexico Business on May 11-13, 2022, will feature leaders from diverse sectors to discuss the latest trends impacting business in Mexico.

Join the conversation with Adrián Chávez from Lealtad Verde, Claudia de la Vega from Walmart de México y Centroamérica, Arturo Vasconcelos from Grupo Chedraui and Alicia Silva from Sustentabilidad para México A.C. in the panel “Beyond Sustainability: Business Opportunities That Have a Net-Positive Impact on the Planet” and learn the insights directly from those who are shaping the industry.
