Equifax has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Mexico’s Círculo de Crédito for an enterprise value of US$750 million, expanding its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing credit markets while bringing cloud-native technology, AI-powered analytics and alternative data capabilities together to support financial inclusion and digital lending across the country.
Equifax is strengthening its position in Latin America through the acquisition of Círculo de Crédito, a move that expands the company into Mexico’s rapidly growing credit market while reinforcing its strategy of investing in technology-driven acquisitions.
The transaction combines one of the world's largest data, analytics, and technology companies with Mexico's fastest-growing credit bureau, creating a platform focused on expanding credit access through cloud-native infrastructure, AI, and alternative data. "The acquisition of Círculo de Crédito will expand Equifax's presence in the fast-growing Mexico market and marks an energizing new global chapter for both companies," says Mark Begor, CEO, Equifax.
Begor notes that Mexico is one of the fastest-growing credit markets globally, as over 25% of the Mexican population does not have access to formal financial products, and nearly 44% of the population does not have a bank account.
“Equifax and Círculo de Crédito have a shared commitment to helping more consumers live their financial best, and together we will continue to offer deeper alternative data and unique insights that can help our customers deliver unique solutions to expand their consumer credit offerings," says Begor.
Under the definitive agreement, Equifax will acquire 100% of Círculo de Crédito for a purchase price of US$825 million. The transaction represents an enterprise value of US$750 million after accounting for an estimated US$75 million in cash at closing and no outstanding debt. The acquisition remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Equifax Prioritizes the Mexican Market
The acquisition extends Equifax's international footprint into Mexico, the second-largest economy in Latin America and a market where consumer lending continues to expand alongside digital financial services. The company says the transaction aligns with its strategy of deploying free cash flow toward bolt-on acquisitions that strengthen its technology portfolio and accelerate long-term growth.
For Equifax, the agreement represents its 17th bolt-on acquisition over the past six years, with total acquisition investments approaching US$5 billion. The company also expects the transaction to contribute positively to adjusted earnings per share in the first full year following completion.
Círculo de Crédito has established itself as a significant player in Mexico's credit ecosystem by operating both consumer and commercial credit bureau services. The company serves more than 1,700 customers across banking, retail, fintech, telecommunications, microfinance, and small-business lending while managing 2 billion tradelines covering 80 million validated identities.
Its financial performance has reflected the expansion of digital lending in Mexico. For the 12 months ending June 30, 2026, the company estimates revenue of US$134 million, representing 31% year-over-year growth, alongside US$62 million in adjusted EBITDA. Equifax says it expects Círculo de Crédito to continue delivering high double-digit revenue growth throughout 2026.
Beyond financial performance, the acquisition highlights the increasing strategic value of alternative data in credit decision-making. Círculo de Crédito has built a broad dataset that extends beyond traditional credit histories, incorporating information such as gig-economy activity, utility payments, and telecommunications payment records.
The opportunity is particularly relevant in Mexico, where more than 33 million people participate in informal employment, including gig work and unregistered microbusinesses. At the same time, more than one-quarter of the population lacks access to formal financial products. These structural characteristics have increased demand for alternative methods of assessing creditworthiness as financial institutions expand digital lending services.
"We are energized to join the Equifax team and have access to their industry-leading cloud-native technology, platforms, and products to help our customers grow and expand our position in Mexico," says Juan Manuel Ruiz, CEO, Círculo de Crédito. "Consumer credit growth in Mexico is driven by inclusion and digitization, and Círculo de Crédito has been a first-mover in the market with the market's broadest data set and innovative solutions. We provide strategic data, decision-making, and digital solutions that empower lenders to deliver innovative financial services products across Mexico and expand access to credit for Mexican citizens."
Ruiz says integrating Equifax's cloud-native capabilities, data analytics, and global technology portfolio will strengthen the company's ability to support customers as lending markets continue to digitize.
What’s Next?
Following completion of the acquisition, Ruiz and the existing leadership team will continue managing Círculo de Crédito as part of the Equifax International business. Equifax says customers will gain access to its cloud-native infrastructure, patented EFX.AI technology and identity protection and fraud prevention capabilities, enabling the development of additional data-driven solutions for financial institutions.
The transaction also reflects broader trends across financial services, where credit bureaus are evolving beyond repositories of credit history into providers of analytics, identity verification, fraud prevention, and AI-powered decision support.
