Mendel and Visa Launch AI Fleet Card in Mexico

Mendel and Visa have introduced the Mendel Flotilla Card, an AI-driven payment and expense management solution designed to digitize corporate vehicle operations in Mexico. The launch marks the first implementation of Visa’s revamped commercial fleet platform in Latin America, combining global payment infrastructure with specialized artificial intelligence to manage corporate mobility costs.

The new card targets the regional fleet and mobility sector, focusing on financial governance, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. By integrating Mendel’s AI-powered management platform with Visa’s acceptance network, the solution allows companies to move beyond traditional fuel-only cards toward a broader mobility management ecosystem.

“For years, the problem has not been how much is spent on fleets, but when real visibility and control are achieved,” said Ana María Ponce de León, CFO and Country Manager, Mendel Mexico. “Bringing financial governance to the exact moment of the transaction has become a minimum requirement for business profitability.”

The platform uses AI models to analyze spending patterns in real time, enabling the detection of anomalies and the anticipation of budget deviations. This level of oversight provides financial teams with continuous auditing capabilities and data-driven decision-making tools. According to the companies, governance at the point of sale represents a shift away from traditional retrospective expense reporting.

A key operational feature of the solution is the automation of tax compliance. The platform allows drivers to capture expense receipts via photographs, which are then automatically validated as digital tax receipts (CFDI) with Mexico’s Tax Administration Service (SAT). Data from the partnership indicates that this automation can increase tax receipt recovery by up to 40% and reduce non-deductible expenses by up to 20%. For administrative teams, the system can save up to 150 hours per month.

The Mendel Flotilla Card features EMV chip technology for contact and contactless payments and is designed for future integration with digital wallets. Unlike standard fleet cards restricted to specific fuel stations, it is accepted at any merchant within the Visa network. This enables companies to manage a wide range of vehicle-related expenses, including maintenance, tolls, electric vehicle charging, and employee transportation, under a single administrative framework.
