Remittance flows to Mexico reached US$5.1 billion in March 2025, marking a recovery after three consecutive months of declines, according to official data released Monday.

The March total represents a 15.5% increase compared to the same month in 2024 and a 2.7% rise from February. This inflow brought first-quarter remittances to US$14.27 billion, a 1.3% year-over-year increase.

Remittances remain a vital source of income for millions of Mexican households, significantly contributing to domestic consumption and regional economies, especially in rural areas.

Despite the rebound, analysts are cautious about the outlook for 2025. Stricter immigration policies under US President Donald Trump’s administration have raised concerns about potential declines in migrant remittances.

Trump has intensified efforts to limit irregular migration as part of his campaign promises. This has led some migrants to abandon plans to travel to the United States, while others have returned to their home countries due to heightened fears of deportation.
