Paymentology has launched Lume, a cloud-native issuing platform designed to help banks and fintechs scale global card programs through an API-first, Zero Trust architecture. Backed by a US$175 million investment, the platform combines market localization with cross-rail payment capabilities, enabling international expansion while supporting local regulatory compliance.

Global issuer-processor Paymentology has launched Lume, a cloud-native card issuing and processing platform designed to help banks and fintechs deploy and scale international card programs. The platform is built on cloud-native technology intended to support operational growth and accelerate innovation for financial institutions.

Lume is built around three core priorities for card issuers: global scalability, deep market localization, and continuous product innovation. Operating as a unified platform through regional processing instances across multiple continents, it provides the infrastructure needed to support international expansion. Its localization capabilities enable direct integration with domestic payment rails, local regulatory frameworks, and market-specific payment preferences. The platform also supports emerging payment technologies, including cryptocurrency and stablecoin transactions, real-time payments, tokenization, embedded finance, digital lending solutions, and other evolving forms of digital payments.

According to Jeff Parker, CEO, Paymentology, financial institutions have long sought to accelerate product launches, expand internationally, and adapt quickly to local market requirements as consumer expectations evolve. However, many legacy platforms were not designed to provide that level of scalability or flexibility. "Lume responds directly to that challenge, offering issuers a modern, cloud-native infrastructure that can evolve with the market and help our clients build long-term momentum," Parker said.

The launch follows a period of growth for Paymentology, which recently secured a US$175 million strategic investment from Apis Partners and Aspirity Partners. Alongside the investment, the company expanded its international footprint and introduced a refreshed corporate brand identity. Paymentology currently provides card processing services to more than 400 banks, fintechs, and financial institutions across nearly 70 countries, processing billions of transactions each year.

Multi-Cloud Infrastructure and Zero Trust Security

Lume is built on a multi-cloud architecture that integrates infrastructure from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud. The platform features an API-first, service-oriented architecture designed to improve system resilience, deployment speed, and operational scalability across global markets. Paymentology said all future platform enhancements and product innovations will be developed natively within the Lume environment to support faster development cycles and greater platform extensibility.

Unlike traditional payment processing platforms, Lume uses a Zero Trust security architecture. The framework replaces legacy virtual private network (VPN) connectivity with secure, internet-based access while relying on identity-based authentication to protect every transaction and system interaction.

"While many platforms have approached global issuing and localization as separate challenges, Lume was built to integrate both, offering a consistent developer experience across all markets while enabling agile localization for each country, scheme, and regulatory requirement," said Tim Joslyn, Chief Technology Officer, Paymentology.

Joslyn added that the platform helps issuers with multinational ambitions eliminate much of the complexity traditionally associated with global expansion. "We are already seeing the impact of this through the results we are delivering to clients operating in multiple regions around the world," he said.

Advanced Payment and Automation Capabilities

Lume includes a suite of tools designed to address operational challenges across the card issuing ecosystem, with capabilities focused on AI-driven commerce, digital lending, cross-rail payments, and automated dispute management. Among these is Agentic Payments, a module designed for a future in which artificial intelligence agents increasingly initiate and complete purchases securely on behalf of consumers.

For lending institutions, the platform includes PayCredit, which provides an integrated framework for managing buy now, pay later (BNPL) products, revolving credit lines, and installment loans without requiring issuers to replace their existing technology infrastructure. To automate operational workflows and improve risk management, Lume incorporates a real-time Decision Engine that combines data analytics, workflow automation, and decision-tree models to support automated processes and highly personalized customer experiences.

Meanwhile, the platform's Money Movement capability enables cross-rail transfers by connecting card networks, bank accounts, and digital wallets, allowing funds to move seamlessly between multiple payment channels.

Operational oversight is provided through the Platform Portal, which offers centralized visibility and management as card programs expand. In addition, Automated Chargeback Management introduces real-time dispute processing, helping financial institutions reduce manual workloads and accelerate chargeback resolution.
