Prometeo, a fintech infrastructure provider that connects corporations with financial institutions across Latin America and the United States, has announced the launch of Agentic Banking, a new infrastructure layer that enables artificial intelligence (AI) systems to perform real-world financial actions.

The solution is the first in the region to make financial services both readable and operable by AI. Prometeo said the system combines its API network with an intelligent access protocol and conversational interfaces, allowing AI to execute payments, validate accounts, and manage treasury operations—all with full compliance and traceability.

“With Agentic Banking, Prometeo is not just building for the future—we are enabling it,” said Rodrigo Tumaian, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, Prometeo. “We have created the first infrastructure layer where artificial intelligence can securely access and interact with financial systems. Where there used to be hard-coded workflows, now prompts drive secure, structured actions in real time.”

The platform builds on Prometeo’s existing API infrastructure, which connects to more than 1,200 financial institutions in 11 countries. Two additional layers—the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which governs how AI models access financial data and operations, and the Agentic Interface System, which connects users and agents through channels like WhatsApp, enterprise systems, and web portals—enable secure AI interaction.

The underlying technology, known internally as the Model Serving Protocol (MSP), allows large language models such as ChatGPT or Grok to connect securely to Prometeo’s API network.

This launch positions Prometeo at the intersection of financial infrastructure and AI, aligning with the evolution of frameworks such as Mexico’s Open Banking initiative. Roberto Gaudelli, Commercial Director, Prometeo, highlighted the historical challenges in Latin America’s financial API landscape.

“The regulation did not require financial institutions to open APIs,” he said, referring to Mexico’s 2018 Fintech Law. “For years, companies like ours had to create host-to-host connections or even use web scraping to access basic financial data. It was costly and technically complex.”

Gaudelli explained that Agentic Banking marks a shift from app-based interactions to automated systems.

“The idea behind agentic banking is that users no longer need to navigate complex interfaces. You could simply say, ‘Pay my supplier,’ and an AI agent connected through Prometeo would execute the operation securely, following all regulatory and security standards.”

Agentic Banking is already powering real-world use cases in Mexico, Peru, and Brazil, including conversational payments via chat platforms, instant account validation for disbursements and transfers, and autonomous treasury bots that manage balances and execute multi-party transactions.

The platform complies with ISO 27001 standards and features nominative account tracking, pre-transfer controls, and audit traceability. Prometeo also emphasized strict data protection protocols, including encryption, multi-factor authentication, and transaction limits.

Prometeo plans to expand the service to Argentina, Colombia, and the United States in the coming months.

“Latin America has the talent and demand to lead in AI-powered finance, but it needs the infrastructure to match,” said Ximena Aleman, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, Prometeo. “Agentic Banking closes that gap by giving AI secure, real-time access to the financial system across the region.”
