British neobank Revolut has surpassed 500,000 retail customers in Mexico less than six months after the full commercial launch of its banking operations on Jan. 27, 2026. Company executives described the milestone as a significant validation of the firm's digital banking strategy and long-term commitment to the Mexican market.

Rather than entering the country through the acquisition of an existing financial institution or a strategic partnership, Revolut chose to obtain a domestic banking license, allowing it to offer its full suite of financial products directly to Mexican consumers.

"Reaching half a million customers in less than six months demonstrates that consumer trust is built on institutional strength and that there is strong demand for what we offer: an all-in-one digital bank that transcends borders," said Juan Guerra, CEO, Revolut Mexico. "When you refuse to take shortcuts, consumers reward you with their trust."

Revolut Accelerates Growth Strategy in Mexico

The rapid customer acquisition follows a multi-year investment program and an extensive regulatory approval process. A US$64 million capital injection completed last month increased Revolut's cumulative investment in Mexico to US$167 million, building on a previously announced commitment to invest US$100 million during 2026 to strengthen local banking infrastructure and expand its retail presence.

According to Guerra, the additional capital will support the company's next phase of growth after consumer adoption exceeded internal expectations. He attributed the strong demand to an integrated digital platform offering interest-bearing accounts, credit cards, and instant domestic and international transfers through a single application.

"We are here to stay and revolutionize banking with a long-term vision," Guerra said, emphasizing that the convenience of accessing multiple financial services through one digital interface has been a key driver of user growth during the first half of 2026.

The official launch of full banking operations on Jan. 27 concluded a beta testing phase that began in November 2025, making Mexico the first market outside Europe where Revolut operates as a fully licensed bank.

The expansion increased the company's global footprint to 40 countries and more than 65 million retail customers worldwide. The earlier beta phase allowed Revolut to test localized products, validate operational systems, and ensure compliance with Mexico's regulatory framework before its nationwide rollout.

The licensing process involved extensive oversight by the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) and Mexico’s Central Bank (Banxico). Revolut received its initial banking authorization in April 2024 and obtained final approval to begin operations in October 2025.

The regulatory milestone positions Revolut as the first independent digital bank to complete Mexico's licensing process from the ground up, rather than entering the market through the acquisition of an existing banking institution or banking license, underscoring the company's long-term commitment to one of Latin America's largest financial services markets.
