Q: Why should people choose aesthetic medicine instead of plastic surgery?

A: A great differentiator of aesthetic procedures is that they are considered to be non-invasive. They are performed in a medical office within 20 minutes to an hour. The patient does not require a convalescence period after the procedure and can return to their normal life immediately. Aesthetic medicine is not better than plastic surgery; choosing either requires an evaluation of the characteristics of the patient. However, aesthetic medicine is a great tool because it can provide good results with minimal recovery time.

Q: How did the popularity of aesthetic medicine among the Mexican market change after the COVID-19 pandemic?

A: Many patients in Mexico and abroad rejected these procedures before the pandemic but have now become more receptive to them. Videoconferences had a great impact. Before, patients used to only look at themselves in the mirror in the morning and if they noticed something they preferred to change, they let it go. Seeing themselves constantly on camera during the pandemic made patients place more importance on the things they wanted to improve about themselves.

Q: What are the most popular aesthetic procedures in Mexico?

A: We can divide patients into two large groups: those who want to prevent and those who want to treat. Botulinum toxin-like procedures, known as Botox, hyaluronic acids and fillers continue to be the most popular procedures at our clinic and globally. Other patients want to improve their body appearance or correct a condition such as cellulite.

Q: What role does aesthetic medicine play in the promotion of medical tourism in Mexico?

A: In Mexico, the two key states for medical tourism are Tijuana and Cancun. The home office model has allowed many patients to come to Mexico from the US and the EU for an aesthetic procedure. We attend about three foreign patients daily.

Q: How can patients protect themselves from clandestine clinics?

A: The patient has the right to review a clinics' professional license and certifications. Patients should know if the person applying this procedure is a licensed doctor with a certification for the practice of aesthetic medicine. These procedures are not cheap and seeing them offered at extremely low prices should be a red flag because they might be using unauthorized or fraudulent products.

Our clinic has a notice of operation granted by COFEPRIS that validates that the clinic has a doctor trained, certified and able to deliver aesthetic medicine.

Q: How should regulation evolve to eradicate these clinics?

A: COFEPRIS regulates these clinics and has shut down several clandestine centers. A clinic can be shut down if it lacks the operating Privacy Notice or performs unauthorized procedures. Our clinics are inspected by COFEPRIS at least once a year on a voluntary basis to ensure that everything is in order and aligned with regulations.

Q: What are some recent innovations in aesthetic medicine and what are the emerging trends?

A: In recent years, we have been moving more toward prevention. Before, most of those who underwent aesthetic medical procedures were older individuals looking to correct something. We are seeing that a larger percentage of patients are younger, looking for preventive procedures. The fear of Botox has also decreased.

New trends focus on enhancing the natural beauty of each person without having to copy it from someone else. Social media filters have also had a great impact and some patients even request procedures to look as they do under a filter. We have to help them get rid of that idea and make them understand that it is not a natural look.

Q: Why should people trust Balmori Aesthetics Center and its procedures?

A: We prioritize ethics and continuous education, constantly training ourselves and updating all our procedures. In addition, all the supplies we use, such as appliances, injectables or topical treatments, have scientific support and are original. We always guarantee the highest quality products.

We have also relied on technology to transform the patient’s experience. We rely on various tools, such as 3D facial reconstruction, so patients can see how they will look before they undergo a procedure. The technology for aesthetic procedures has been evolving amid great demand. At Balmori Aesthetics Center, we work hand in hand with the best laboratories worldwide.

Q: What are Balmori's priorities for 2023?

A: We have been growing steadily for three years and seek to continue investing in state-of-the-art technology that is globally certified. We will continue providing continuous medical training to continue developing our techniques. We will always pursue the well-being of the patient from an ethical standpoint.
