Q: What makes República Médica the best partner for healthcare facilities?

A: República Médica is an integrator of surgical services. We invest in infrastructure, medical equipment, supplies and specialized technical attention for minimally invasive procedures. Our services cover a significant part of the country, including Mexico City, State of Mexico, Merida, Veracruz and San Luis Potosi. Right now, we are looking to expand to Puebla.

Q: What criteria does República Médica use when choosing the products it commercializes?

A: Healthcare is very expensive, which is why República Médica wanted to have a very diverse portfolio of products that could adapt to different budgets, from a small clinic to a big hospital chain. We have services that are oriented to private facilities focused on low-income patients and high-coverage insurance patients.

We try to balance our offering, analyzing our clients or possible clients to enter new markets. República Médica always has quality equipment on hand as opposed to state-of-the-art technologies, because clients do not necessarily need the latest developments. Given their needs, we know that the quality of the equipment is more relevant than having the latest technology.

Q: What added advantages do República Médica’s products provide to patients, doctors and hospitals?

A: For us, it is very important to follow up on the products we sell because equipment requires constant maintenance. Moreover, before we offer one of our solutions, we analyze the facility that is asking for it so we can understand the needs of the place and of the doctors and medical staff who will be using the equipment or infrastructure. After that, we follow up with the medical staff to get their feedback and opinions on our solutions.

We also have a number of laparoscopic professionals at our service. Most of them are biomedical engineers who are in charge of monitoring, installing and maintaining the equipment we sell. They are involved in every step of the purchasing and installation process to assist doctors and nurses with the proper management of the equipment, as they are the ones who will use the equipment.

With the COVID-19 crisis, we have worked to integrate safety solutions for medical staff as the risk of contagion is very high. We have been trying to determine the right conditions for the room where COVID-19 patients are being treated, for example. Surgical associations have recommended the placement of smoke evacuators in operating rooms to filter accumulated air and República Médica is already offering that service.

Q: What are the logistical advantages of República Médica?

A: The company tackles all logistics on its own and we have been successful enough to now be looking for new ways to expand. While the medical field is huge, we have found a niche in which to stand out. Still, we have the opportunity to grow and dabble into new specialties that we do not cover. In the future, we would like to create alliances in new areas to offer our services. However, expansion within our current field is our priority.

Q: How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted your services offering?

A: In April and May, we faced a 50 percent reduction in demand as preventive measures to handle the crisis included delaying elective surgeries or procedures. June was a recovery month for us. We saw a rise in the demand curve and we are now almost on the same level we were in January.

Q: What are República Médica’s near-term goals?

A: We are still facing uncertainty, just like the rest of country, the healthcare sector and the overall economy. We hope to maintain our numbers and recover. As we are trying to stick to realistic goals, expecting growth might be too optimistic.
