IMSS Bienestar Launches Strategy to Simplify Healthcare Access
IMSS Bienestar launches La Muestra Viaja, (The Sample Travels) an initiative designed to provide individuals without social security access to laboratory tests without the need for long-distance travel. The program aims to reduce diagnostic costs and wait times by sending samples to specialized laboratories.
"Each sample that travels represents a patient who does not have to wait in line, does not need to come back for their results, and does not need to travel," states Alejandro Svarch Pérez, Director, IMSS Bienestar. The program operates with the collaboration of Health Centers and Correos de México, which will transport the samples, explains Svarch. Currently, the initiative operates in the State of Mexico, where 606 Health Centers and 11 central laboratories serve over 9 million people without social security.
The process starts when patients visit an IMSS-Bienestar Health Center, where their samples are collected. These samples are then sent to central laboratories for analysis. The results are delivered directly to patients via text message.
Svarch confirmed that throughout 2025, the program will be expanded to Colima and Veracruz in April, and Mexico City in May. The rest of the country will join this strategy by the end of 2023, when all Mexicans without social security will be able to undergo clinical tests by simply visiting the nearest Health Center to their home, finalized Svarch.
