Q: How is TCA Software shaping the healthcare ecosystem in Mexico and Latin America?

A: Digital transformation involves more than the integration of digital solutions. True digital transformation involves changing business models in ways that generate a tangible impact on populations and patients. TCA Software aims to drive that kind of impact with our clients. Our business philosophy is centered on pushing the boundaries through technology. We aim to make an impact thanks to our understanding of our clients’ business needs, rather than focusing solely on technology or systems. Were we to focus only on technology and transactional processes, we would just be another traditional technology company. Instead, we aim to deepen our impact in ways that ultimately benefit populations and patients.

This approach enables our clients to grow as businesses. For example, hospitals that grow in capacity can serve more patients, provide higher-quality care, improve communication with families, enhance treatment adherence, and address patient health outcomes more effectively. Our focus is on creating meaningful improvements that extend beyond systems and processes to the people who rely on them.

Q: With more than 40 years of experience, how has the company evolved from being a software vendor to becoming a true strategic partner in healthcare?

A: TCA Software originated as a technology company focused on operational business management, what is commonly known as RPS systems. In the mid-1980s, we began serving clients in the hospitality sector. Among these early clients was a major hospital group with whom we started working in 1985. This relationship evolved into a close and collaborative partnership, allowing us to understand both the value TCA Software brings to clients and what our clients offer us in return. Our client, which began as part of the Posadas Group, grew alongside us, showing us that our role needed to extend beyond being simply a software company.

Our new offices will reflect our goal to go beyond software, partnering closely with our clients to support their specific needs. This approach represents our transition from a traditional software company into a business that emphasizes personalized, value-driven relationships with each client.

Q: How does your focus on accessibility and innovation translate into tangible improvements for patients and providers?

A: We aim to build collaborative relationships with our clients, establishing clear communication and aligning on shared objectives. These partnerships allow us to move beyond simply offering functionalities to understanding the deeper impact we can create. For example, a patient-facing application is not just a tool for scheduling, telemedicine, or e-prescriptions. Retaining a patient requires seeing them as a user, understanding their daily health habits, and supporting their needs in context. By integrating features such as symptom checkers, hospitals can guide users to the appropriate level of care, whether that is a teleconsultation or an in-person visit, reducing unnecessary trips and optimizing care delivery.

This approach shifts the conversation from functions to outcomes. We focus on patient satisfaction, improved communication, care efficiency, and cost containment. Retaining patients is far more effective than acquiring new ones, and supporting patients in managing their health proactively benefits both the individual and the healthcare system. Ultimately, our goal is to create tangible value for patients, hospitals, and the broader healthcare ecosystem.

Q: What principles guide the design of your healthcare solutions to make them both user-centric and clinically relevant?

A: The healthcare sector presents unique complexity, and our focus at TCA Software is on delivering comprehensive solutions that address both operational and clinical needs. Our core objective is to make hospitals profitable while enabling them to serve more patients and have a broader societal impact. To achieve this, we offer end-to-end solutions that span administrative and operational workflows, clinical management through electronic health records, and patient engagement via applications.

Our integrated approach ensures that all hospital operations, regulatory compliance departments, quality and patient safety divisions, and certification standards are aligned with business objectives. This dual focus on financial sustainability and clinical excellence allows hospitals to optimize costs, increase revenues, and improve patient outcomes. Beyond operational efficiency, we push the boundaries of innovation, leveraging data to create patient profiles and enable new care models that support proactive health management. By integrating patient data across interactions, we can enhance monitoring, follow-up, and preventive care, ultimately empowering hospitals to deliver higher-quality care while supporting healthier populations.

Q: How does TCA Software ensure interoperability and seamless integration between administrative, clinical, and financial systems in hospitals?

A: Our solution is both modular and comprehensive. We developed a dedicated integration module, which we call “hubs,” to connect our various modules and to integrate with third-party systems. However, we do not claim to operate the entire hospital independently; collaboration with other stakeholders is essential. Our solution supports a wide range of integration protocols, including HL7 FHIR, and works with about 40 different protocols. This allows us to integrate with diverse systems, from back-office operations to niche solutions like biomedical equipment management and traceability.

Hospital operations are inherently complex, so integration and interoperability are non-negotiable. Internally, hospitals must ensure systems can communicate; externally, we must collaborate within the broader national health ecosystem. By opening our systems and working collectively, all stakeholders can maximize both impact and business opportunities, contributing to a more effective and sustainable healthcare system for the country.

Q: What role do AI, data analytics, and automation play in creating more equitable healthcare access?

A: We focus on the people who use these systems: patients, physicians, nurses, administrative staff, and operational personnel. Every functionality we develop, including AI-driven solutions, is designed to support these users in their daily tasks, allowing them to focus on patient care and hospital operations rather than system complexity.

For physicians, we have integrated AI tools that help standardize medical practices, support diagnostic processes, and guide treatment decisions, including digital prescriptions. These tools act as assistants, processing patient symptoms and relevant data to generate pre-diagnoses, which physicians validate before determining the final treatment. This approach enhances efficiency while keeping ultimate clinical decision-making in the hands of the medical professional. For administrative and operational staff, AI copilots within our platform provide real-time information, generate reports, and assist with workflow-related queries. These tools can also offer guidance for routine tasks or specialized procedures.

Our philosophy emphasizes collaboration and integration across hospital systems and stakeholders. By connecting modules, third-party solutions, and hospital workflows, we create a seamless environment in which staff and patients can operate efficiently. This approach ensures that patients can focus on recovery, medical staff on care delivery, and hospital personnel on their operational responsibilities, without being distracted by technical barriers or fragmented information. In essence, our systems aim to move users smoothly from point A to point B so that everyone in the hospital ecosystem can concentrate on their essential role in healthcare delivery.

Q: Why has interoperability not become a priority in hospitals, despite being a long-recognized challenge?

A: Interoperability in healthcare is not primarily a technological issue. Solutions already exist, protocols have been established, and significant progress has been made globally. The main challenge is the limited willingness to collaborate. Hospitals often hesitate to open their systems due to concerns about losing control or competitive advantage. This fear can prevent them from embracing partnerships that could enhance efficiency, patient care, and broader systemic impact. However, when organizations commit to collaboration, the results are far greater.

We are advancing projects that require openness, integration, and cooperation with other organizations. We are partnering with multiple companies on interoperability initiatives, including talent sharing and joint technology projects. Similar collaborative efforts, even with competitors, are necessary to maximize impact and create a more integrated national healthcare system. There is ample opportunity for all participants to grow while improving care delivery.

Q: Where are the greatest opportunities for innovation in hospital technology in Mexico?

A: There are significant opportunities in redefining the patient journey beyond the traditional hospital walls. By viewing patients as users, hospitals can identify new lines of care and business. One particularly compelling area is “hospital at home,” which goes beyond conventional home nursing to deliver full hospital-level care in the patient’s residence. This model can expand patient reach, improve outcomes, and reduce costs.

Preventive care is another area with high potential impact. Healthcare incentives often prioritize treatment over prevention, creating inefficiencies. Aligning hospitals, insurers, and patients around preventive strategies can control costs and improve population health. For example, home-based care or infusion therapies reduce unnecessary hospitalizations, lower patient expenses, and help insurers manage risk, while giving hospitals new avenues for service delivery.

Ultimately, technology should be seen as a tool to empower these innovative care models, enabling hospitals to transform both their business and care delivery, enhance competitiveness, and extend their reach across patient populations.

Q: What areas is TCA Software prioritizing to expand its presence in the healthcare sector over the next few years?

A: Our primary focus is on supporting Mexico’s private hospital sector, particularly small and medium-sized hospitals, while continuing to serve larger institutions. We have developed an initiative called Out of the Box, designed to provide solutions that elevate operational standards and contribute to the institutionalization of hospitals across the country.

Our goal is to strengthen hospitals that can have a significant impact on the population, improving access to technology, functionality, and usability for the Mexican market. At the same time, we are looking beyond Mexico. Over the next five years, we aim to expand into other markets, leveraging the flexibility of our technology to serve pharmacies, laboratories, diagnostic centers, and other healthcare providers, effectively building a comprehensive ecosystem.

As part of this strategy, we are also deploying our solutions with practicing physicians to generate actionable data, including electronic prescriptions and clinical services. This approach reflects our long-term vision of transforming healthcare in Mexico and Latin America over the next five to 10 years.
