The Mexican government is in talks with Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of India to develop vaccines for the Mexican market, in an effort to bolster the national healthcare infrastructure and safeguard the well-being of citizens.

During his official visit to India in 2022, Marcelo Ebrard, Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the need for Mexico to diversify its vaccine supply sources. Ebrard underscored that relying solely on developed nations for vaccines was not a sustainable approach. He highlighted India's global recognition as the "Pharmacy of the World," which stems from its remarkable achievements in conducting the largest COVID-19 vaccination campaign and supplying vaccines to more than 100 countries through the Vaccine Maitri initiative.

In 2021, Mexico received an initial shipment of 870,000 doses of the AstraZeneca SARS-CoV-2 vaccine from Mumbai to bolster the country’s National Vaccination Policy and its ongoing fight against COVID-19.

While Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Lupin, and Dr. Reddy's Laboratories have established a significant presence in Mexico, the country is actively seeking to attract additional Indian pharmaceutical companies as it aims to foster cooperation with India specifically in the areas of cancer treatment technology and biotechnology.

This partnership holds significant advantages for both parties involved. Indian companies can capitalize on their presence in Mexico as a strategic hub, allowing them to extend their business operations throughout Latin America. Notably, Panama is actively working toward establishing a pharmaceutical hub, and India's pharmaceutical sector emerges as a crucial ally in this endeavor.
