In an effort to expand the capacity and accessibility of private healthcare services in Mexico, leaders from healthcare companies gathered to discuss the creation of a connected healthcare ecosystem.

The event, organized by Global Hitss titled 'A proposal for the evolution of the healthcare ecosystem', brought together representatives from hospitals, clinics, laboratories, pharmacies, the pharmaceutical industry, insurers, and distributors.

A digital healthcare ecosystem should connect existing networks and solutions in an open and scalable manner, enabling the secure and smooth exchange of data through interoperability, information exploitation, and connectivity. This enables patients to easily navigate between service providers, regardless of brands, competition, or geographic limitations, and receive the best possible care.

Daniel Hajj Aboumrad, CEO, Telcel and Board Member of Global Hitss, presented a video at the opening of the event emphasizing the crucial role that Global Hitss played in connecting solutions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Felipe Labbé, CEO, Global Hitss, shared his vision of a connected healthcare ecosystem that focuses on the patient's journey. "Interoperability is not solely about technology, it also concerns processes and how we care for the patient. If we do not acknowledge that interoperability among all of us serves the patient's best interest, then we will only make small, disconnected efforts," said Labbé. "Interoperability is a cornerstone for transforming and progressing the healthcare ecosystem; without it, achieving our goals would be impossible."

Some of the benefits of being part of a digital healthcare ecosystem are to radically transform the patient´s experience, strengthen relationships between sector players and find new businesses and source of income for companies, said Labbé.

Sergio Papini, Deputy Director of Mobile Solutions and Global Sales, highlighted the role of connectivity in the healthcare ecosystem, emphasizing its importance in enabling the "connected patient" and the scalability of digital technologies. In addition, he addressed how to leverage mobile technologies to improve medical care and the patient´s well-being.

Moreover, Jorge Alberto Woolf, CEO, Salud Interactiva, emphasized the importance of having the support of all players in the sector to successfully enable an ecosystem. He also presented the role of telemedicine in the healthcare ecosystem in terms of democratizing healthcare services, especially when reducing inequalities.

During the event, David Potes Arredondo, Co-founder, AVA Salud and representing the General Director of the Mexican Hospital Consortium, Javier Potes, discussed the challenges that healthcare institutions face when implementing digital technologies, as well as the role that artificial intelligence technologies play in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Harry Loboa, Head of Health Care for LATAM, AWS shared his company´s vision on challenges associated with digital ecosystems such as security, and how patient data security and privacy can be obtained. Loboa explained how the cloud addresses the resilience and security of systems. Additionally, he presented how cloud computing and data analytics technologies can be leveraged to improve decision-making in the healthcare sector. Loboa highlighted cloud attributes such as agility, elasticity, cost savings, and innovation, as well as the benefits of operational and clinical efficiencies resulting from better access to data and improved collaboration.

TELUS Health presented the building of Canada´s healthcare ecosystems via an AI-generated video, that detailed the impact of the interoperability platform on the country´s healthcare system.

Event leaders concluded by emphasizing the importance of "collaboration," "conviction," "will," and "participation." The overall closing message was "let's talk!" - encouraging to take action and participate in the formation of an open health ecosystem by connecting existing solutions.
