Q: What sets V&L Corp apart and what is its value proposition for the Mexican market?

A: We are a company dedicated to both medicines and medical supplies. V&L Corp has focused primarily on products such as insulin and effervescent tablets. We also have new business lines entering the market. Our value proposition is centered on quality products and competitive pricing. We have seen a very good reception from the market. The capsule division, for example, has been favorably received because we offer excellent quality at great prices.

Q: What market trends are influencing the development of the supplement market?

A: The supplement market is experiencing significant growth. It is a market that has been expanding steadily, and the pandemic accelerated this trend. The United States has about 340 million people and a supplement market valued at about US$30 billion. Mexico’s supplement market is valued at about US$2 billion even though the country has almost 130 million people. Theoretically, the Mexican market could be worth US$10 billion with a similar per capita consumption, but the country’s purchasing power is different.

Since the pandemic, consumers have begun treating supplements as a form of preventive medicine. Nowadays, people aim to reach an older age in good health. Supplements such as probiotics, prebiotics, vitamins, zinc, magnesium, and turmeric are helping people age better and maintain good health. This trend is significantly contributing to market growth. On the other hand, V&L Corp also sells to the pharmaceutical market, which is already well-established. Medications often use our capsules for drug delivery.

Q: What changes have you seen in healthcare habits and how are they driving the consumption of supplements?

A: There is a growing focus on health rather than on preventing disease. In the past, people would go to the doctor only when they felt ill. Today, preventive check-ups have increased significantly. People are getting lab tests done just to understand their health, even if they are not showing any symptoms of disease.

Many are dieting to maintain health, not necessarily for weight loss. Many are also taking supplements and exercising. While there are many processed foods, people who focus on their health are eating better and ensuring they are getting the nutrients they truly need.

Q: How has interest in probiotics evolved among Mexicans?

A: The microbiota is now seen as a second brain. When the microbiota is healthy, overall performance improves. There has been a growing interest in protecting the microbiota, and this has helped people enjoy healthier adult years by preventing the onset of diseases. Many illnesses stem from poor dietary habits. Supplements are a practical alternative for many nutrients. For example, Omega-3 is primarily found in the skin of salmon but few eat salmon or its skin.

Technology is progressing rapidly, making these supplements more accessible. When combined with exercise and good sleep, people will begin to feel and look better.

Q: What were your expectations for ExpoFarma, and what did you hope to gain from the event?

A: We aimed to connect with businesses — whether pharmaceutical laboratories or supplement companies. Trade shows bring together all these potential partners in one place. We have a strong presence in Mexico, and participate in numerous expos. ExpoFarma is an excellent event as all major pharmaceutical industry suppliers gather there, helping us gain visibility with buyers and executives who see our machines, ingredients, and capsules. This allows us to connect with clients and start the follow-up process necessary for a sale.
