A value-based healthcare model would enable the sector to operate more efficiently without sacrificing patient care. However, for this model to succeed in Mexico, there are still many challenges to overcome, agreed panelists on Day 1 of Mexico Health Summit 2021. The fragmented health system, Diego Guarin, Regional Market Access Lead for Latin America at Merck MSD, pointed out, is one of the main reasons why this model has not been deployed. Furthermore, there is a need for a homogeneous database between the public and private sector, noted Sandra Sánchez-Oldenhage, President of PharmAdvice Consulting. Augusto Muench, CEO of Boehringer Ingelheim Mexico, and Javier Picó, Partner at LifeSciences Consultants, highlighted the opportunity brought by the pandemic for this model to be embraced and how it could impact cost projections in the public sector.
