Mexico City´s government announced its annual infrastructure plan allocating MX$26.2 billion (US$1.25 billion) for the construction of 478 educational, health, public and mobility infrastructure projects.

"The fundamental projects are obviously education, health, mobility and public spaces. These are where the city government has invested the most and we will continue to do so," said Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico City Mayor in a press conference.

The 2022 infrastructure program considers the conclusion of 55 recreational units (PILARES), the intervention in 308 educational facilities, works for the Metro Line 12, and the construction of the Cable Railway in Chapultepec. Jesús Esteva, Mexico City's Secretary of Works and Services, detailed that in 2022 the local government plans to invest MX$26.2 billion (US$1.25 billion) to fulfill all construction works listed, along with the generation of 40,000 jobs.

The construction of the Cable Railway line (Cablebus) that will run along Constituyentes Avenue is considered one of the most relevant projects of the year. It will have a terminal in Chapultepec Park, in addition to four additional stations. The Cable Railway is forecast to transport 20,000 passengers per day and it will run for five kilometers. Construction is expected to begin in May and expected to be completed in December 2023. Likewise, the General Hospital in Cuajimalpa is set to open in May. It currently has 77 percent of progress work completed and contemplates an investment of MX$450 million (US$21.5 million).

Under the Sustainable City axis, the CDMX Works Program includes the development of the San Juan de Aragón recycling plant, with an investment totaling MX$425 million (US$20.3 million). This plant seeks to treat up to 1,200 tons of waste daily and benefit municipalities in the city like Iztapalapa, Venustiano Carranza, Gustavo Madero, Benito Juárez and Cuauhtémoc. Also, the construction waste shredder plant in Tlahuac is projected between April and December, the budget for this project is MX$10 million (US$479 thousand). Regarding green spaces within the city, the local government is planning to enable three projects: the construction of the third stage of the Gran Canal Park, the Cuitláhuac Park, and the Ciprés Park, which will be built in the Old Transfer Station in Colonia del Gas.
