Adrián Rubalcava Appointed New Director of Mexico City Metro
Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada accepted the resignation of Guillermo Calderón as the Mexico City Metro Director General. Brugada said that Adrián Rubalcava will take over the leadership role.
Guillermo Calderón's tenure included directing the Metrobús system and leading the Metro's Line 1 renovation and modernization project, which started under Claudia Sheinbaum’s mayorship. According to Brugada, he will continue to serve the Mexico City Government as an advisor in mobility and is assigned to conclude the renovation project for Line 1.
Adrián Rubalcava, described as a lawyer and experienced administrator, was appointed to the position. His stated instructions are to continue the modernization and renovation of Metro.
In February 2025, the Metro carried 94.3 million passengers, accounting for over 57.1% of the total passengers in Mexico City's Metropolitan area. This positions the Metro as the largest system, moving more passengers than all other transportation means in the area, and exceeding the combined total of all passengers in the cities measured by INEGI’s Urban Passenger Transport Statistics (ETUP).
