Mexico City International Airport (AICM) has invited five companies to provide information-updating services aimed at enhancing user experience. The federal government said that these services are contemplated in the Ministry of Finance’s (SHCP) investment programs and projects portfolio for 2023.

Due to AICM's interest in executing additional infrastructure works in 2023 to enhance user experience, the bidding results are expected to be publicly announced on the afternoon of April 13, 2023. According to the government, the bidding companies are: Herzo Consultoría Financiera, Infraestructura Lidika, Siercorp Ingeniería Aplicada, Servicios de Consultoría y Asesoría para Evaluación de Proyectos and Centro de Análisis de Programas y Evaluación de Proyectos.

According to AICM, a budget of MX1.8 billion (US$98.3 million) was assigned for 2023, of which MX$1.2 billion (US$65.5 million) will be used on 17 authorized and valid registered projects. The remaining MX$600 million (US$32.7 million) was allocated to the improvement of the foundations of Terminal 2, which is being executed by the government of Mexico City.

Despite having 19 registered projects before SHCP, these do not have the resources to be executed this year. Nonetheless, AICM clarified that it has the resources for the information-updating services tender.

On Mar. 16, 2023, MBN reported that The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) requested US$24.6 million from SHCP for the purchase of a building for a new International Civil Aviation Training Center (CIAAC). The ministry said that these facilities are critical to improving the country’s aviation sector and for helping the country recover the Category 1 safety rating from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This recognition would mean that Mexico’s civil aviation authority complies with the highest safety standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

AICM’s Terminal 2 (T2) is undergoing a refurbishment as part of the work plan commissioned by the Mexico City government. The refurbishment also includes revamping other areas like drainage systems and further structures. The works aim to repair cracks and other infrastructure like the sewage that was disconnected because of the airport’s structural sinking problems. The local Ministry of Works and Services (SOBSE) is collaborating with UNAM’s Institute of Engineering, Grupo Alfa, CEMEX and Jaguar for the refurbishment, which has a budget of MX$400 million (US$21.8 million), as reported by MBN.
