AMPIP Announces US$5 Billion to Fund New Industrial Parks
The Mexican Association of Private Industrial Parks estimates an investment of US$billion for the development of industrial parks, aiming to build more than 100 industrial parks by the end of Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration. During Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference, Héctor Ibarzábal, Counselor, AMPIP, and CEO, FIBRA Prologis, noted that 13 new industrial parks have begun construction in Mexico since October 2024, representing an initial investment of US$626 million.
These projects are the first phase of the Plan México initiative, which aims to build 100 new industrial parks in the country. Ibarzábal noted that AIMPIP estimates a future investment of US$5 billion for subsequent developments under the plan. "When this administration began, we were approached to launch something that was music to our ears. We recall the goal of 100 new parks, and the enthusiastic support we are receiving from authorities, combined with the enthusiasm from international investors, is allowing us to advance more efficiently than we had expected,” Ibarzábal added.
Ibarzábal detailed that the activity in the new industrial parks is driven by the logistics and manufacturing sectors. For logistics, he said it serves e-commerce and consumption. He specified that while manufacturing activity is concentrated in the country's north, the newly announced parks are located in Baja California, Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon, Jalisco, and the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (ZMVM), which includes the State of Mexico and Hidalgo. These new facilities will primarily serve the aerospace, automotive, auto parts, medical, and logistics industries. Ibarzábal also distinguished between the investment required for each sector, noting that manufacturing facilities demand greater electrical infrastructure for machinery, while logistics parks are designed for large-scale fulfillment operations for e-commerce.
Ibarzábal noted that AMPIP, which has been involved in attracting manufacturing investment to Mexico for 39 years, has 143 associates. The organization represents 95% of the country's industrial activity and has a presence in 28 states through 477 industrial parks. "We are aligned with Plan México. We need to invest in infrastructure, and through Minister of Economy Marcelo Ebrard, we are holding permanent discussions to understand the requirements for electricity, security, water, roads, and so on. I must describe the dialogue we are having as being unlike any we have had before,” Ibarzábal noted.
