CFE Acquires 49% Stake in Altán Redes, Approving Quetzal Project

CFE has approved the Quetzal Project, aiming to strengthen connectivity in Mexico. The CFE Board of Directors instructed its Administration to comply with the conditions established by the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) in its resolution of Jan. 15, 2025. This resolution authorizes CFE to acquire 49% of Altán Redes’ shares and 24% of its corporate rights, allowing it to appoint two members to the company's Board of Directors.

Since the alliance between CFE and Altán, 11,383 telecommunications towers have been installed. Between January 2019 and January 2025, this effort has enabled 82,178 localities, with over 24 million inhabitants, to access internet services. This deployment has been essential in bringing connectivity to communities ranging from 250 to 5,000 inhabitants, mostly areas where no other operator has shown interest in investing.

The Quetzal Project aims to remove entry barriers in the telecommunications sector, connecting the most remote regions of the country and guaranteeing the right to connectivity for thousands of Mexicans. This initiative reinforces CFE’s social commitment by providing internet access to marginalized communities, establishing itself as a key player in Mexico’s digital inclusion efforts.
