Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo broke ground for the first two industrial warehouses of the Sky Bridge industrial park project in Ciudad Obregon. The state government assures the project will be a booster for the regional economy as it will foster investment attraction.

According to Governor Durazo, the park will speed up the transportation of goods between Mexico and the US, complementing the recently announced expansion of the Guaymas port and the creation of a logistic company that will manage the port and the airports in both Guaymas and Ciudad Obregon. "Sky Bridge will pre-check [goods] and allow us to enter the US with an ease that other companies or export projects will hardly manage," he said.

With an investment of over MX$247 million (US$13.2 million), the project led by Skyplus Developments, will feature 62ha in its first stage. The company is behind real estate developments in Mexico and the US, including logistics, health, aerospace, office and specialized government facilities.

According to Sonora Minister of Economy Margarita Vélez, Sky Bridge Sonora is expected to have 22 more industrial warehouses in the Ciudad Obregón Airport’s logistic complex. “This is part of a logistic project that will connect this international cargo center with the SkyBridge park, which will have a customs office, clearance services and will host companies whose main intention is to produce high-value products that can be exported to international markets," she added.

According to Durazo, his government will expand by 800m the airport’s runway to give it the capacity to receive heavy-tonnage aircraft, with the aim to transform the airport into an international cargo operation hub. Durazo’s administration expects the project to create a large number of indirect and direct jobs as more than 400 companies are already looking for industrial spaces in the complex.
