Electrical Substation Will Provide Service to Mayan Train

The completion of an electric substation will ensure energy sufficiency for the Mayan Train and the Peninsula. Progress stands at 96%, explained Javier May, Director General, FONATUR. The substation is expected to prevent power outages affecting the population, as well as the electrified Section 3 of the Mayan Train, supported by the use of clean energy, according to a FONATUR press release. 

The report highlights the development of a double electrified track from Merida to Chetumal, spanning 700km. Section 3 of the Mayan Train spans 60km of the double electrified track and a total length of 159km crossing 15 municipalities in Campeche and Yucatan.

Regarding the entire Section 3 plan, FONATUR reported that 129km of track have been completed, with 64% progress on the construction of the three viaducts. Additionally, 68 out of 69 planned drainage works have been completed, while 80 out of 118 pedestrian, vehicular and wildlife crossings have been finished. May also highlighted that connectivity is being strengthened with the airports of Campeche and Merida.

"Throughout Section 3, Mayan Train passengers will be able to visit unforgettable natural and archaeological sites such as Puerto Progreso, the Puuc Route, Izamal and Merida. They will also have the opportunity to learn about and admire local traditions, crafts and even gastronomy, which offers incomparable flavors," said May. 

“Even though the railway industry faces steep competition from other means of tourist and commercial transport, it is being modernized to target new customers who value a travel experience packed with history and that has transcended the barriers of time, even leaving its mark in movies,” explained Maite Ramos, Manager Mexico, Alsom Mexico as reported by MBN.
