GAP's New Terminal in Puerto Vallarta Reaches 54% Completion

The construction of the new Terminal 2 at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, a MX$9.2 billion (US$492 million) project by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), has reached 54% physical completion and is scheduled to begin operations in 2H27.

The new terminal is designed to add capacity for 6 million additional passengers and will increase the airport's total surface area to 119,114m². Omar Torres, Director of the terminal, stated that the expansion will add eight new contact gates and four remote positions, bringing the airport's total to 19 contact and 13 remote gates for domestic and international flights.

"With the new terminal, we will be able to double the number of passengers served and give a new boost to the economic development of the region," Torres said. He noted the airport's proximity to tourist destinations like Nuevo Nayarit and Punta Mita in Nayarit as a key factor for growth.

The airport serves 18 airlines with 52 routes during its high season. Between January and July 2025, it handled 4.3 million passengers. In November 2025, the Canadian low-cost carrier Porter is scheduled to begin operations with three new routes, and Southwest is expected to launch a new route from San Diego in 1Q26, reports El Economista.

GAP is constructing the new building to meet LEED Gold standards. The design includes features such as rainwater harvesting and reuse, the installation of solar panels, and glass facades with solar control to reduce heat transfer. 

GAP Expands its Assets’ Capacity 

GAP has recently been expanding key airports. The company will invest more than MX$1 billion to expand and modernize the Morelia International Airport and MX$859 million to expand the Aguascalientes International Airport, with both projects aimed at accommodating sustained passenger growth, as reported by MBN.
