Industrial Activity Falls in June, Breaking Growth Streak
In June 2025, Mexico’s industrial activity ended its streak of monthly gains, posting a slight decline of 0.1% in seasonally adjusted terms compared to May, according to INEGI’s Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity (IMAI). On an annual basis, the sector saw a sharper contraction, falling 0.8% versus June 2024. The IMAI stood at 103.2 points for the month.
By sector, the monthly results revealed a mixed performance. Mining registered the steepest drop at 1.4%, followed by a 0.2% decline in both construction and the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power, as well as water and natural gas supply. In contrast, manufacturing was the only sector to post growth, with a 0.3% monthly increase.
In annual terms, mining showed the most pronounced setback, plummeting 8.5%. The generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power, along with water and gas supply, fell 3.8%. Manufacturing activity remained unchanged from a year earlier, while construction posted a 1.5% year-on-year increase.
The latest data reflects a cooling in Mexico’s industrial momentum after several months of growth, highlighting ongoing challenges in key extractive and energy-related activities, even as construction and manufacturing show resilience.
