Railway connection projects in Central America aim to replicate the potential benefits of the Mayan Train in Mexico. According to leaked conversations between authorities, it is unclear when the Suburban Train project will receive more resources. In addition, the extension of the Elevated Trolleybus from Ermita to Iztapalapa requires most of the local government’s budget.

Central America to Connect Railway with Mexico’s Mayan Train

The construction of the Mayan Train has created high expectations regarding the development of Mexico’s southeast, since the project is intended to foster tourism in the area and transport goods. Some Central American countries believe that they could also benefit from the train and are developing projects to form links.  

Suburban Train Expansion Received Only 8 Percent of Budget

It has been almost a year since the beginning of the construction of the Suburban Train’s extension to the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA). In this context, leaked documents suggest that the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) is concerned about the amount of resources the project has received since the ministry considers this to be less than expected.

Portugal-based railroad company Mota-Engil is consolidating its position as a major railroad developer, as it might finish 2022 with three important railway projects in Mexico that go from the construction of an interstate train to a local railway system. Along with other companies, Mota-Engil aims to reactivate the railway industry in the country.
