New Federal Resources Assigned to AICM

The federal government granted over US$5.1 million for maintenance to one of the most important airports in Mexico. In addition, the Ministry of Finance (SHCP) said that public investment in the sector will account for 3.6 percent of the GDP in 2023, less than invested in previous administrations. According to Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, Michoacan boasts three main areas to exploit nearshoring opportunities.

Government Allocates Resources to Refurbish AICM

The federal government published an agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure Communications and Transportation (SICT) in which it transfers over US$5.1 million to the government of Mexico City for the refurbishment of Mexico City International Airport (AICM) Terminal 2.  

Public Investment in Infrastructure to Stagnate in 2024

The López Obrador administration is expected to finish its first term with a stagnation in the GDP’s percentage destined for public infrastructure investment. SHCP foresees that public investment in infrastructure will account for 3.6 percent of the GDP for 2023, which will result in an average of 2.94 percent for the period between 2019 and 2023.  

Michoacan to Become a Logistic Hub in Western Mexico

As nearshoring is becoming a common word in the business environment, Mexican states are looking to benefit from this phenomenon and attract more investment. Michoacan recently announced its desire to become a logistic hub in western Mexico. It is therefore preparing a strategy to exploit its logistics capabilities.  

 Thefts from Freight Carriers Increase in 2022

Mexico faces a major challenge regarding highway security, as the National Chamber of Freight Transport (CANACAR) explained that thefts increased in 2022. Between January and October 2022, thefts from logistics carriers increased by 7.3 percent in comparison to the same period in 2021 for a total of 10,805, reported the Executive Ministry of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) and the Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR).  

Water Infrastructure Budget to Double in 2023

The Chamber of Deputies approved the Federal Budget for 2023 with a significant increase in the investment destined for water-related projects, which comes on the back of frequent water shortages in Mexico’s northern states.
