Nuevo Leon Begins Construction of Airport Station of Metro Line 6
Nuevo Leon Governor Samuel García officially kicked off the construction of the new Airport Station on Metro Line 6, which is a strategic element for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“More than just a destination, this station represents a dream for the city of Monterrey. It will connect Metro Lines 4 and 6 directly to the airport and into the wider Metro network. Why did we do it this way? Because, like any first-world city, we must ensure our airport is accessible via mass public transportation,” says García.
The Airport Station will link key municipalities including Apodaca, San Nicolas, Guadalupe, Monterrey, and Escobedo. Designed to serve over 70% of the metropolitan population, the station will feature air conditioning, escalators, and elevators to ensure accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility. It will also align its operations with early morning flight schedules.
The Airport Station will span about 1,650m2 and include platforms, a concourse, pedestrian walkways, access points, and street-level infrastructure.
The extension of Metro Line 6 to reach the Monterrey International Airport was announced in December 2023. The project was awarded to a consortium composed of Garza Ponce, Hercules, and Moyeda. Construction officially began on April 3, 2024.
Once complete, Lines 4 and 6 will cover a combined total of 34.37km, making it the longest metro line in Latin America. The new connectivity will fully integrate the airport into the city’s transportation network and serve as a critical link between key urban zones.
