Nuevo Leon Unveils Vital Aqueduct Project

Nuevo Leon’s Government announced the construction of an aqueduct at El Cuchillo II dam, which will be built in an estimated eight to 10 months to provide 5,000 liters of water per second for the metropolitan area of Nuevo Leon. 

"On Friday, construction of El Cuchillo II started, a second aqueduct that is going to bring another 5,000 liters of water and that will guarantee supply to Nuevo Leon for the next 10 years. We are going to do it in record time, with six pumps that are going to bring the water 110 kilometers from China, Nuevo Leon, to Monterrey," said Nuevo Leon’s Governor Samuel García via a press release.

García explained that the aqueduct will be built by Nuevo Leon-based companies. "There are businessmen from Nuevo Leon who won the tender, as you know the 10 construction companies are from the state; the three pipe companies are from Nuevo Leon, the steel companies are from Nuevo Leon and the pumps are from Nuevo Leon," added García.

The aqueduct will be 110 kilometers long to bring water to the metropolitan area of Monterrey, which now receives about 14,000 liters per second. El Cuchillo II seeks to help normalize the supply of drinking-water to the state. García said that these projects usually take three to four years of work but claimed that the state could put it off in “record time.” 

"Today I also want to congratulate Juan Ignacio, from Water and Drainage of Monterrey, because the telemetry, which is the system that checks how much water we have available, marks that we are already at 14,000 liters per second this Sunday," said García.
