Highway infrastructure in Oaxaca is expected to get a big boost with the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway, which is expected to be completed by 2023.

During a construction supervision tour of the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway the head of Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT), Jorge Arganis Díaz-Leal affirmed that communication routes in Oaxaca are a priority that will promote the economic development of the state. Díaz-Leal said this highway will allow the materialization of long-awaited projects in in the state. "We have precise instructions from the President to accelerate the rehabilitation works on federal highways, as well as to speed up work that only have some sections pending and are ready to enter operation."

"We aspire to achieve modernity for everyone. It would be inconceivable to have a very expensive superhighway and to have dirt roads and dirt tracks in towns. This is why people are very happy, because they are not excluded or marginalized”, said the Governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa.

Mexico´s Undersecretary of Infrastructure, Jorge Nuño Lara, pointed out that these contributions to highway infrastructure will directly benefit 80,000 people as well as 14 local communities. He also said that they are working together with the National Infrastructure Fund and local governments in Oaxaca to improve the construction process. During the supervision tour, it was reported that the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway work is 55 percent complete.
