The Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT) launched the first bidding process for the executive projects for the Mexibús systems that will connect the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), which will be financed with the US$4.4 million (MX$90 million) allocated for the Highway Studies and Projects Program.

One of the major challenges ahead for the new Felipe Ángeles airport is connectivity to the rest of the city. The Santa Lucia project is 45 km from Mexico City´s AICM, according to official government data. Currently, a trip from AICM to AIFA can take between 50 minutes and an hour and a half in car, while riding in public transport can take up to two hours depending on traffic and the route chosen. However, the government has a plan to decrease the travel time with different infrastructure projects, as reported by MBN. President López Obrador and  SEDENA and SCT representatives said that connectivity projects will be carried out in the metropolitan area, including the expansion of roads and Metro, Suburban Train and Mexibús lines.

The first bidding process of the Mexibus  involves the project for a 1.8 km extension and a vehicular overpass located in the municipality of Zumpango, where the loading facilities will be located. Based on information from the AIFA, in order to guarantee the flow of passengers, cargo, as well as military functions, there will be four accesses. The first and main one will be a junction with the Circuito Exterior Mexiquense (on the west side). At this end, there will be a road that will connect directly to the passenger terminal using an elevated highway, as reported by El Economista.

Among the Mexibús projects contemplated, which will be managed by the government of the State of Mexico and the SCT, are: the extension of the Ojo de Agua station from line 1 to AIFA, as well as the extension of the Las América station which will stretch from line 2 to AIFA. Finally, the extension of the Tecámac station will go from line 4 to the Santa Lucía Airport.
