The Ministry of Agrarian, Land and Urban Development (SEDATU) announced the start of infrastructure works at the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT). Construction requires an investment of MX$2.38 billion (US$114 million), which is provided by the annual budget of the Urban Improvement Program (PMU). Román Meyer, Head of SEDATU, indicated that the ministry plans to carry out more than 70 infrastructure projects in 20 Oaxaca and Veracruz municipalities.

"These works will be carried out via the PMU’s 2022 budget. They will be exemplary projects. Young people and adults will be able to enjoy public spaces in the municipalities of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec," Meyer said in his statement. SEDATU's public infrastructure renovation works include comprehensive neighborhood improvements, urban and metropolitan planning, land use arrangements and community labors.

In Oaxaca, 37 improvement works using MX$1.19 billion (US$57.6 million) will be constructed. Six of these projects will be constructed in the municipality of San Pedro Comitancillo. San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec and Petapa will see the construction of five projects. Juchitán de Zaragoza will see the construction of four projects. Matías Romero Avendaño, Santo Domingo Tehuantepec and San Juan Guichicovi are to be the location for three projects, whereas Ciudad Ixtepec, El Barrio de la Soledad, and Santa María Mixtequilla will each receive two projects. Finally, one project will be constructed in El Espinal and another one in Asunción Ixtaltepec.

In Veracruz, SEDATU allocated MX$1.19 billion (US$57.6 million) for 33 infrastructure works. Seven projects will be constructed in Cosoleacaque, six in the municipality of San Andrés Tuxtla, and another six projects in the municipality of Minatitlán. Córdoba is to be the location for four projects, while Soteapan and Sayula de Alemán will receive three. Olutla is to receive two projects, just like Acayucan.

During the presentation of the Economic Reactivation Plan for 2022, the Ministry of Economy highlighted that it will work in coordination with the CIIT projects to create 10 growth poles. CIIT is part of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's plans to economically develop the Isthmus, promoted in his presidential campaign as one of his key infrastructure projects of his presidency.
