SEDATU Presents Mobility Plan

SEDATU has presented a mobility project aimed to transform cities through sustainable mobility tools, such as bicycle lanes, and sustainable methods of transportation, among others. 

Efforts such as the "Manual de Calles: Diseño vial para ciudades mexicanas" and the "Estrategia de Movilidad 4s: Saludable, Segura, Sustentable y Solidaria", are part of the mobility project aiming to offer guidelines that will improve the quality of road and urban public space projects. It seeks to leave behind automobile traffic and prioritize the mobility of people.

Román Meyer Falcón, Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU) stated “In order for us to achieve our objective, it is important to recognize social stakeholders, both collective and individual, and to identify how they are involved in the design and execution of the projects that are transforming the cities.” He continued, “We need tools for citizen participation and communication that facilitate comprehensive, technical and professional territorial management of road projects. The street should be a dynamic public space, where activities are generated that give rise to an inclusive and healthy urban life, where urban environmental quality is promoted.”

The document was produced by bikeNcity as part of the initiative called RE-ACTIVA.MX, in the framework of the collaboration with the UK, through the Mexico-UK PACT program. The main topic it discusses is territory management, which describes general considerations and its step-by-step approach that will allow for review of the physical and social space where the projects will be carried out. The objective of this tool is to lay the foundations of the strategies for the management of territories. In addition, it aims to socialize and integrate people in the development of the project. Meaning, that by implementing an emerging pedestrian and bicycle mobility project, as well developing public spaces, the government aims to respond to the needs of the proposals expressed by its citizens, ensuring its correct operation, and even to support its future permanence.
