SICT to Invest MX$11.8 Billion in the State of Mexico
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT) announced the details of an MX$11.8 billion (US$636.1 million) investment for the Comprehensive Development Plan for the Eastern State of Mexico, set to be deployed between 2025 and 2027. The plan targets projects in public transport, mobility, safe paths, and educational infrastructure, and is expected to benefit 10 million people.
The announcement was made by Minister of Infrastructure Jesús Esteva Medina during an event to launch the reconstruction of the Alameda Oriente bridges. He was joined by the Governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez, and Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada. Esteva emphasized that the investment is a coordinated, tri-partite effort between federal, state, and municipal governments.
The plan allocates MX$5.9 billion for mobility. This includes a road repaving program supported by new specialized machinery and the conservation and construction of 20 bridges. Public transportation will receive approximately MX$3 billion, with projects that include studies for the Ixtapaluca Trolleybus line, an extension of Mexibús Line 3, and a program to scrap 7,335 old transport vehicles.
An additional MX$3 billion is designated for the "Senderos Seguros, Camina libre camina segura" (Safe Paths, Walk Free Walk Safe) program, which will develop 1,000km of corridors with improved lighting and sidewalks over three years. The plan also includes a MX$400 million investment in educational infrastructure in 2025, intending to build at least one new high school in each of the nine targeted municipalities, which include Ecatepec, Nezahualcoyotl, and Chalco.
