SICT to Refurbish Highways in Oaxaca

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) will refurbish the Barranca Larga-Ventanilla highway in San Vicente Coatlan, Oaxaca. SICT explained that members of the Commissariat of Communal Goods and the Surveillance Council of San Vicente Coatlan, Oaxaca told President Andrés Manuel López Obrador that the development of the highway is “an act of solidarity, congruence and dignity.” 

"We have decided through the Community Assembly to continue all the works on the superhighway with monthly reviews and evaluations to verify the progress and solve the agrarian, social, violence and peace conflict," explained the Commissariat via a letter turned to the government and Governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara Cruz. 

The Commissariat decided on Feb. 11, 2023 the continuation of the superhighway and provided the letter, which was signed by Tomás Hernández Osorio, President, Commissariat of Communal Assets and Surveillance Council of San Vicente Coatlan. The project aims to enhance progress and development in Oaxaca and Mexico.

In other news, President López Obrador announced that he expects Mexico to receive interest-free loans to build four wind-power farms in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec from either the US government or Mexican banks. The wind farms are part of López Obrador's plans to build 10 industrial parks along the new southern railway corridor, which aims to connect the Salina Cruz port in Oaxaca with the Coatzacoalcos port in Veracruz. The stretch consists of 303km railway with connections, highways, and involvement from the airports of Minatitlan, Ixtepec and Huatulco. 

The project, known as the Interoceanic Corridor, will also feature a gas pipeline and a fiber optics network. A visit by a US delegation is expected soon, with envoy John Kerry expected to launch the projects. Locals have opposed the construction of wind farms in the area in previous occasions and the president has refused to grant permits for private renewable energy projects by foreign investors in the country, as reported by MBN
