The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) launched a tender to choose a company that will help the ministry to supervise the application, tracking and control of the resources it granted to Mexico City’s authorities for the construction of the Mexico-Toluca Interurban Train.

SICT is looking for a company to supervise the management of over US$428 million granted to Mexico City to develop its part of the Interurban Train, the figure stemming from an agreement between the city and the development bank National Bank for Public Works and Services (BANOBRAS).

The tender has only received one question during the explanation and questions stage from Ingeniería y Construcción 3G, which also participates in another section of the project. The company asked the General Direction for Railway and Multimodal Development (DGDFM) if it would be able to participate in the project if it has active contracts with the same project in a different section. DGDFM replied that the company can participate if it meets the requirements and has sufficient personnel to carry out the project.

Currently, Ingeniería y Construcción 3G is working on the supervision, control and tracking of a cable-stayed viaduct for the Interurban Train, the contract is worth US$1.3 million. The company is also supervising the construction of another viaduct, with the contract valued US$352,000.

According to SICT, the contract for this project is worth US$603,000 and interested companies have until Nov. 1, 2022, to submit their economic and technical proposals. The supervision works are expected to commence on Dec. 1, 2022, with an execution date of 182 days. The winner must check that the resources delivered to the developer are managed properly, the company must also assure that they are used for the continuity of construction works, as well as works related to the supply of materials and transportation, as well as assembling and mounting of metal work. It must also supervise the mounting of viaducts 1, 2,3 and the Santa Fe station. “The service provider in its capacity as railway financial adviser must act objectively, independently, impartially, honestly and ethically to represent SICT via DGDFM, the supervision, use, tracking and control of the support resources,” reads SICT’s call.
