The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) will improve international bridges and the federal toll free network, said Jorge Nuño Lara, Minister of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport.

SICT has planned four projects to reinforce connectivity between Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon, which include the highway from Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo and the Villa Manuel-Aldams highway. The ministry will invest MX$745 million (US$37 million) in Tamaulipas in four conservation projects.

One of the projects will complete the access road to the Brownsville-Matamoros International Bridge in December 2022. Works on maintenance and rehabilitation of highways through a 351-kilometer stretch special program were completed in July 2022 and are currently providing service. The Reynosa-Pharr International Bridge will be expanded in November 2022. However, it is still missing the no-objection review by the International Water Limits Commission.

SICT also spent this year’s MX$745 million (US$37 million) budget to maintain 2,141 kilometers of the federal toll-free network in Tamaulipas through a Highway Conservation Program. In 2023, the budget will be similar but will be destined to the conservation and abate of roads in poor condition.

“There are four projects, in which the feasibilities are completed, to reinforce the connectivity between Ciudad Victoria with limits to the State of Nuevo Leon, the highway from Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo (el Libramiento) and the highway from Villa Manuel-Aldama Soto La Marina to Rayones, which would reinforce Highway 180 or Costera, coupled with the modernization of the Altamira-Nuevo Progreso highway. For these works, the executive projects are completed, to start their construction. Additionally, the operation of the Matamoros and Nuevo Laredo airports, in charge of Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA), is reviewed,” reads SICT’s press release. SICT also highlighted the possession of the Public-Private Association contract from Tampico to Ciudad Victoria, which is under operation and covers 225 linear kilometers.

Tamaulipas just elected its newest governor in Américo Villareal, who accused the former governor of indebting the state and not complying with the Federal government’s security strategy. Regarding the discrepancy, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador promised support for any budget-related complications for Villareal, as reported by MBN.
