Amazon Announces New State of Mexico Distribution Center

The expansion of e-commerce and retail giant Amazon in Mexico continues with a new logistics center in Tepotzotlan, State of Mexico, with which it hopes to create new job opportunities and shorten delivery times in the country’s central region, reports Expansión.

The announcement comes from Alfredo Del Mazo, Governor of the State of Mexico, and the directors of the company. “We are very happy to meet with Governor Alfredo del Mazo to announce our plans for expansion in Tepotzotlan. We will keep working with him and the State of Mexico,” said Amazon Mexico Public Affairs on Twitter. According to Del Mazo, Amazon has become one of the state’s main allies and strategic partners in its economic reactivation, reports Immobiliare. He also claimed on Twitter that the company’s expansion was possible thanks to the state’s infrastructure, strategic location and talent pool. The State of Mexico is highly relevant for Mexico’s logistics sector as it is responsible for around 103,000 jobs.

The new distribution center was developed by Parks in a building donated by Fibra Uno (FUNO), which will allow orders to be collected, packed and sent in the shortest amount of time possible. Diego Méndez de la Luz, COO of Amazon Mexico, detailed that the new center is part of the company’s commitment to deliver better service and create more jobs, reported Expansión. The investment is expected to generate many job openings in supply chain, human resources, security and finance, among others, reports Xataka.

Last year, Amazon announced a planned investment of US$100 million in Mexico to strengthen its logistics and delivery times in the country. The investments are planned outside Mexico City metropolitan area and will also be used for the creation of new distribution centers in Monterrey, Guadalajara and the State of Mexico, previously reported MBN.

With this new distribution center, Amazon has now six facilities throughout the country: one in Apodaca, Nuevo Leon; another in Tlajomulco, Jalisco and four in the State of Mexico. Last December, the company also announced it planned to invest in another logistics center in Yucatan, reported MBN, that would improve the company’s services in the southeastern part of the country.
