Q: What makes Frotcom stand out in the highly competitive fleet management and telematics market in Latin America?

A: We are a highly experienced player in this industry, with nearly 30 years of expertise in fleet management and telematics. While we have deep roots, we recognize that market needs evolve rapidly. One of our core competitive advantages is our ability to adapt quickly to these changing demands.

Frotcom originated in Portugal, initially establishing its footprint in the European and African markets, each with its own distinct operational requirements and regional peculiarities. When we entered the Latin American market in 2014, we went through a steep learning curve, identifying both overlapping trends and highly unique local challenges. The pace of change in our industry is intense; for example, the services we provide today to major consumer goods clients who joined us over five years ago look completely different from the solutions they originally contracted. We navigate these shifting landscapes successfully thanks to a highly adaptable, multidisciplinary team and a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution engineered for maximum flexibility.

Q: What role does Mexico play in Frotcom’s regional strategy, and what makes the Mexican market stand out compared to other countries in Latin America?

A: Beyond the fact that Mexico is a wonderful country that has welcomed both me personally and our organization with open arms, it is a highly distinct market. It is structurally more demanding, deeply professionalized, and operates at an entirely different scale of volume compared to the rest of Latin America.

Consequently, Mexico represents our primary growth engine for the coming years, and it is where we are concentrating our strategic resources and objectives. The Mexican market is a profound driver of innovation. In fact, our clients here consistently request advanced, custom developments that push our platform to evolve. The sophisticated services we design to meet the needs of the Mexican market frequently become the blueprint and technological trend for our operations across the rest of Latin America.

Q: In a crowded telematics market, many providers offer off-the-shelf software. How does Frotcom ensure its technology is actually aligned with the specific, day-to-day realities of Latin American transport operators?

A: The primary challenges we face lie at the intersection of rapidly shifting technology, evolving customer needs, and the increasing professionalization of the logistics sector. While state-of-the-art technology is vital, the true differentiator is our capacity to deeply understand a client's operational realities. We cannot apply generic, one-size-fits-all solutions to complex business problems.

Our team represents a core competitive advantage because they are not just software experts; they are deeply experienced in the transportation industry itself. This specialized background allows us to fully empathize with our clients' daily operational pain points.

Frotcom maintains a dedicated, in-house development team directly within Latin America. Because our local engineers share the same operational mindset and cultural context as our clients, they can design, build, and deploy custom features with remarkable speed. While larger market players may monitor more vehicles, our clients consistently value our agility and rapid response times. In a volatile market, being able to deliver tailored solutions at pace is our ultimate competitive edge.

Q: How does Frotcom help its clients build operational resilience against these unpredictable, systemic risks?

A: We are highly accustomed to navigating variables beyond our direct control. Frotcom maintains a significant operational footprint across Africa and South America, giving us deep experience in managing volatile environments. Consider the political shifts Peru has experienced in recent years; remarkably, that political instability did not translate into a regulatory or economic collapse.

We frequently contend with fragmented administrative environments, which some might call regulatory uncertainty, particularly regarding customs and import procedures. It is common to experience fluctuating processing timelines for the same asset classification, under the same compliance criteria, across different border checkpoints.

However, we view these localized disruptions as part of the operational baseline. Despite these hurdles, Latin America remains a market rich with structural opportunities that simply no longer exist in more mature regions of the world. Our experience has taught us that where there is operational complexity, there is a distinct competitive advantage for those who know how to manage it.

Q: Frotcom offers tools such as route planning, GPS tracking, sensor monitoring, reports, alarms, and cost management. Which of these solutions are currently generating the most value for transport and logistics companies in Latin America?

A: Our direct communication with clients drives highly customized developments. A perfect example is a solution we built for Grupo Modelo. They asked us for a route-planning and scheduling tool, and the result is magnificent; it works like an airport control tower. From a distribution center (CEDIS), you can view arriving trucks with exact time windows and an ETA updated minute-by-minute. The algorithm continuously recalculates based on speed, load, and real-time traffic, reducing the need for external planning software.

Additionally, we deliver custom Power BI dashboards and KPIs rapidly. In fact, large corporations with their own IT departments have realized we are faster and more cost-effective, so they migrate dashboard development to our team. Platforms are highly subjective, user preferences vary, and change management is always a hurdle. To solve this, we co-create personalized, intuitive dashboards directly within our platform.

We have established ourselves as true leaders in this space. I have literally watched major competitors visit our expo stands to take photos of our interface, only to see similar solutions pop up in their catalogs shortly after.

Q: Fuel remains one of the largest operating costs for fleet operators. How does Frotcom help companies reduce fuel consumption, identify inefficiencies, and improve cost control across their fleets?

A: Fleet management is our core business, with fuel management being one of our strongest specialties. For years, we have specialized in controlling this critical variable. In transport logistics, after the capital expenditure of the fleet itself, the highest operational costs are always fuel, driver payroll, and tires.

To combat recent fuel price volatility across the region, we combine our core telematics tools with custom Power BI dashboards. This allows operators to pinpoint operational inefficiencies, poor driving habits, and fuel theft. By accurately detecting these anomalies, we have helped companies achieve proven fuel savings of 5% to 10%. This calculation is based solely on improvements in driving efficiency and does not include the additional savings we help our customers achieve by detecting and preventing fuel theft.

Q: Frotcom has pointed to fleet electrification as one of the issues Latin American operators must prepare for. How ready is the region for electric fleets, and what role can fleet management software play in that transition?

A: There is still a long way to go, primarily regarding infrastructure. As a telematics provider, we are fully prepared; our technology is ready to support green fleets, but the lack of charging networks remains a major barrier across Latin America. Smaller nations like Uruguay and Costa Rica have shown strong progress, and we see growing adoption here in Mexico. However, EVs are only viable for short, localized routes. Fleet operators simply cannot risk long-haul corridors, such as Mexico City-Guadalajara, without guaranteed charging access.

Even in highly developed markets like the United States, renting an EV without a nearby charging infrastructure creates severe operational anxiety. Despite these systemic limitations, Frotcom is at the technological forefront. We track critical EV metrics, including real-time battery status and specific diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Furthermore, we are collaborating directly with manufacturers to bypass hardware installations through factory-integrated, OEM telematics solutions. We already partner with brands like Citroën and Peugeot to stream data directly into our platform. The technology is fully mature; the bottleneck is strictly regional infrastructure.

Q: How have you grown your position in the Mexican market and what challenges do you see for the industry?

A: Our clients have pushed us to become true specialists in navigating this market because the sheer scale of the Mexican logistics sector is massive. Unlike in some Latin American countries where rail infrastructure is virtually non-existent, Mexico has a functional network, yet highway freight remains the undisputed backbone.

In this environment, the most explosive demand we are seeing is coming from the passenger transport and empty-mileage management sectors. Passenger transit requires incredibly rigorous safety protocols and real-time tracking. Meanwhile, managing empties, optimizing return trips to ensure trucks are not running empty, has become a priority for companies trying to eliminate wasted fuel.

However, the industry's most critical bottleneck today is not a lack of trucks; it is a severe, structural shortage of qualified drivers. While the highway infrastructure itself is actually quite acceptable compared to the rest of the region, the volume of cargo being moved is immense. This sheer density is exactly why major North American telematics and logistics corporations are aggressively establishing a presence here. Mexico is an incredibly powerful, high-volume market that commands global attention.

Q: Many large fleet operators struggle to manage different software applications for routing, security, and maintenance. What are you seeing on the ground regarding how companies manage their technology?

A: When we consult with larger fleet operators, we consistently see extreme technological fragmentation. Companies often manage multiple, separate platforms from different vendors just to meet their basic operational needs.

This is exactly where we add value. Rather than forcing a client to deal with a fragmented ecosystem, Frotcom integrates core logistics planning, high-precision fuel management, specialized security protocols, and digital document workflows into a single ecosystem. Furthermore, our platform features robust API capabilities that allow it to seamlessly ingest and share data with external software.

Q: What are clients asking for today that they were not asking for five years ago?

A: The main demand right now centers on video telematics and artificial intelligence (AI). Clients are looking for predictive tools rather than reactive ones. They do not want to perform a post-mortem analysis after an accident has already occurred; they want to prevent it.

Our platform is built to analyze driving patterns in real time to enable this preventative action. For example, if a driver experiences a sequence of events within a 30-minute window, such as a yawn, excessive blinking, a harsh turn, and sudden braking, the system flags this specific driver as highly fatigued or at risk. This allows the fleet manager to step in immediately before an incident happens. Additionally, companies want these AI capabilities fully integrated into their main platform, with systems that communicate with each other natively rather than sitting in separate silos.

Q: What are Frotcom’s priorities for 2026?

A: Mexico is our top priority. It is the market where we are focusing our resources and strategic efforts. While we have interesting technological updates on the way, our focus remains on our core values: system robustness and flexibility.

We are fully aware that Frotcom is not yet a household name in the region. Instead, we have built our reputation by delivering highly specialized and tailored fleet management solutions, along with the operational flexibility that many larger, more standardized systems often struggle to provide. Our clients value us precisely because we adapt our technology to their operational needs rather than expecting them to adapt to the software.

At the same time, we have nearly 30 years of global history and a highly stable corporate structure behind us. This gives our clients the financial peace of mind that we will be here long-term, backed by a global network that consistently updates our technology. Ultimately, our growth in Mexico will be driven by this combination of a solid, dependable platform and the agility to adapt to each client's specific needs.

Q: How does Frotcom maintain close relationships with its clients?

A: Our primary operations hub is based in Peru, but we are actively shifting resources to build a matching hub here in Mexico because the market requires it. While video calls have eliminated physical distances, we strongly believe in direct, face-to-face presence.

I personally travel extensively across Mexico, visiting clients in Hidalgo, Michoacan, Veracruz, Jalisco, and Aguascalientes. We do not manage relationships from behind a desk; we go straight to the field to see how operations actually run. For instance, we have mining clients in Peru where our teams regularly go down into mining operations to see the exact working conditions. There is a huge difference between having a client describe a problem and seeing it firsthand.

Clients deeply appreciate a partner who is willing to get their hands dirty to understand their operational pain points. Many providers simply hand over a piece of software and leave the client to navigate it. For us, post-sales support is an ongoing process because we only build long-term relationships. Honestly, this approach is also beneficial for us: being on the ground allows us to learn, anticipate industry shifts, and speak the same language as our clients. As a boutique firm, our core identity is built on this agility, humility, and dedication to walking in our clients' shoes.
