Altaley Mining announced that the key infrastructure needed to start production at its Tahuehueto project in Durango is nearly complete. The company's project is expected to be producing at full capacity between 2Q22 and 3Q22. Meanwhile, at its Campo Morado project in Guerrero, an extensive metallurgical testing program will be completed during 2Q22.

In a press release, Altaley announced that construction of its 1,000t/d processing plant in Tahuehueto is 95 percent complete. In addition, the company announced that the key mining infrastructure needed to start production of gold, silver, lead and zinc concentrates at Tahuehueto is also well advanced. Altaley explained that while preproduction was scheduled for March 2022, full production capacity is expected to be reached over the next two quarters of the year.

“Our anticipated start of preproduction operations at Tahuehueto is the culmination of many years of hard work by the Altaley team. As our Tahuehueto mine reaches full production over the next quarters, the increased cash flow will allow Altaley to restart exploration drilling and unlock the full potential of the  Tahuehueto district-scale project," said  Ralph Shearing, CEO and President, Altaley Mining.

In an interview with MBN, Shearing explained that Tahuehueto is a district-scale project with high mining potential. However, its remoteness and past ownership conflicts hampered its development. “Despite the challenges, we are making progress on the project. Going into production is the first step in unlocking its true value. We believe its potential is very similar to its close neighbors: Fresnillo’s La Cienega mine, which produces 3,000t/d, and the prolific San Dimas mining district,” said Shearing. In addition, he said that around 2H22, the company will increase production to 1,000t/d. Altaley expects to declare commercial production at Tahuehueto during 3Q22 or 4Q22.

Meanwhile, for its other project, Campo Morado, the company's extensive metallurgical testing program is expected to be completed in 2Q22. With the results, the company will have a roadmap of requirements to increase recoveries. The company said that the speed of implementation of improvements will depend on costs. However, Altaley expects it to be in late 2022 or early 2023.

Shearing explained to MBN that with Campo Morado, the company expected to transition toward become a primary precious metal producer with strong base metal byproducts. With Tahuehueto coming online in 2022, Altaley is well-positioned to transform into Mexico’s next mid-tier metals producer.
