The International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM) has welcomed  CAMIMEX as a member of the organization, together aiming  to further develop and promote sustainable mining in the country.

CAMIMEX announced it is now part of the 28 companies and over 35 national, regional and commodity associations that make up the ICMM, an organization dedicated to a safe, fair and sustainable mining and metals industry.

Jaime Gutiérrez, President of CAMIMEX, highlighted that the Chamber's participation in these organizations allows the chamber to strengthen and create new alliances that allow the sector to show the benefits generated by mining and further enhance them. “We are convinced that working with this organization will be essential to continue developing a sustainable mining sector that generates prosperity for Mexico and for the communities where operations are to be found."

Rohisteh Dhawan, CEO of ICCM, said the organization is pleased to welcome CAMIMEX as it is a true advocate for the industry’s best practices and sustainable mining. “CAMIMEX’s focus on the wellbeing of present and future generations, respect for the environment and socially responsible growth aligns with ICMM’s mission for a safe, fair and sustainable mining and metals industry. We are thrilled to welcome them as a new association member.”

In an interview with MBN, Aidan Davy, Chief Operating Officer and Director, Environment Program at ICMM, said the most important benefits ICMM membership brings to companies is that it gives them a seat at the table in leadership discussions that set the direction of key practices within the industry; networks that give members the opportunity to interact on various levels and discuss important issues that pertain to the industry; the exchange of good practices between members and external organizations; and finally that they can count on ICMM to speak about the industry's contribution to society and thereby help improve its social acceptance.

Davy said that the sector tends to believe that membership is only for bigger companies and this is not true. “There is no impediment to any company that has an interest in becoming an ICMM member. A unique characteristic of our membership process is that it is not overseen by other members or ICMM. We delegate that responsibility to an independent expert review panel that impartially confirms if a company should be admitted as an ICMM member.”
