The Canada-based exploration company Colibri Resource Corporation announced it applied for permits to carry out trenching and drilling programs, presenting the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) with reports about the company’s Evelyn property.

As the permits appear to be approved quickly, the company expects to start two drilling programs in the short term. The first will follow up the company’s phase 1 reverse circulation (RC) drilling program completed between 2021 and 2022, which resulted in a total of 872m in six holes made at the project’s main zone. The drilling program includes drilling five holes with a total of 2,000m, whose results will help the company to test the result of the Induced Polarization Survey it completed in 2021. According to Colibri, the primary target of this drilling program is a chargeability anomaly that lies beneath the main zone.

The second drilling program aims to explore an alluvial cover located north of the main zone by making short and close-spaced RC holes to penetrate the alluvium and sample the top of the bedrock. The drill program’s main objective is to test the location of potential mineralized zones.

The company furthermore announced that it is currently working on soil sampling to test for the southern extension of the main zone, under what looks like a thick colluvium layer. In addition, the company said that upon receipt of the permit to excavate trenches, it will dig some trenches across the West Sahuaro target, located over a soil anomaly that the induced polarization survey of 2021 had previously reported.

In September 2022, the company completed a drilling program at another property: the La Prieta project, located in southeastern Sonora. Here, the company’s option partner Silver Spruce Resources participated in the program, which resulted in the drilling of 19 holes with a total of 2,000m.

Colibri Resource Corporation is an exploration company focused on acquiring and exploring prospective gold and silver properties in Mexico. The company currently owns six exploration projects: the Evelyn gold project, which is 100 percent owned by the company, the El Pilar gold-silver project, optioned to Tocvan Ventures, the El Mezquite gold-silver project, optioned to Silver Spruce, the Jackie gold-silver project and the Diamante gold-silver project.

The Evelyn project is therefore Colibri’s flagship asset. It is located in the Caborca Orogenic Gold Belt in northeast Sonora, approximately 25km from La Herradura, considered to be the largest gold-focused mine in Mexico.
