Q: Can you explain how the company was formed, and what gap in the market you were trying to fill?

A: Espaciomovil is a company that thrives on innovation, so my partner worked on a patented development unit that allowed the replacement of components onsite, and developed a mechanism whereby it was easy to replace the components such as doors and windows. There are a great deal of options that we offer that a traditional unit may not. Our modular units allow more people to fit inside even though it takes up less space simply as a result of the design of the furniture, which is customized to the particular unit. At that point, the virtues of our product were relatively misunderstood but we have now been able to become an industry reference in terms of modular capabilities. The company initially began to rent and sell on a small scale, and between 1998 and 2002 our regional fleet increased to 40 units.

Q: Which products or services see the most demand in the Mexican mining market?

A: The mining sector is extremely important as not only does it represent 15-20 percent of the company’s sales but it has also allowed us to learn to develop products, grow in areas to which we are not accustomed, and to understand security, which is an integral part of our business. In the last few years, although the sector has not seen the growth of previous periods we still see it as an important part of our business, and it is merely a question of waiting for the market to recover.

Q: What importance does flexibility have in the mobile accommodation industry?

A: There is a large quantity of insulating materials and flooring equipment currently available, which makes it easier to continuously improve our designs through trial and error. We recognize and embrace the need to build a deep knowledge of the area and its geology before starting a project, and we work together with the client to develop a solution that will meet his or her particular needs. For example, usable space often comes at a premium on mine sites, and one of the biggest advantages our products have is that they are easily adapted to fit any location. Moreover, speed is a crucial aspect of our business and something that is vital for our customers. We had a client who was working on a significant transport project for a mine, and we installed a camp fitted with dormitories, dining rooms, and office spaces for 150 people within three months.

Q: How can Espaciomovil’s mobile units help its clients to reduce the operational costs of their businesses?

A: One of the main benefits our business model provides is that, given the rental option we offer, our customers are not forced to make any long-term investment. The products are not luxury items that require significant capital expenditure, but rather they are simple, sustainable, and affordable mobile solutions that not only last for several years but also have little or no lasting effect on the surrounding environment. It should be noted that this is not a short-term fix that we have devised as a result of the current market conditions but rather a long- term strategy designed to ease the financial strain felt by our clients. One of our most popular patented products, the mobile office and camp unit, requires no preparatory excavation work prior to installation. This means that the building infrastructure can be put in place and taken away without any drilling, which of course benefits the ground underneath the structure. We also design our products to use as little air conditioning and heating power as possible.

Q: What plans does the company have in place to further establish itself in the mining market both in Mexico and abroad?

A: Our principal role in the mining industry is to improve the quality of life for those living and working in and around the mines so we will continue to design new and spacious living quarters for mine workers and for those who travel to mines, such as service providers. We are currently working with our R&D team to create six-floor- high mobile hotels that can be easily and quickly installed on the mine site and will provide all the necessary services. This is a product that will be on the market before the end of 2016 and is one of the most innovative designs Espaciomovil has ever produced.
